Owner in TROUBLE!

Shades of Bruce McNall?
http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_9468518

I grew up with Bootsie in SJ. We played soccer together. He was a big, chubby kid who's mother wore moomoo's to the games and from the sidelines, she NEVER stopped yelling, "Get the ball Bootsie!"

I think it's totally sad.

I visited Nashville in December and saw them beat the Ducks. It was a great game in a very cool city with some very loyal fans.

Sad!

Somehow I can't shake the image of his mother wearing a moomoo yelling at him from the side of a soccer field, I've got no comment on the actual linked story.

I've driven down for a game and went to the draft when it was there, agree with you on what you said. The city deserves much better.

I really don't forsee that happening. We did nothing to bring this on...Boots brought it on with his own arrogance and Boots is not a member of the "Local Ownership" group, so that remains intact.

The sad part is that this is detracting from a great Stanley Cup Final and takes away from the image of the league and the two teams that have earned the right to be playing right now. The timing of this is horrible and for that, I think everyone that loves our sport should be upset with Boots, not Nashville.

I'm not really worried. I don't think it's going to end up being a huge deal, whether Boots stays or goes.

Kinda puts a damper on him buying out the locals and heading for KC.

True, but the frightening thing could be if he tried to sell his shares to Balls.

Which means silly Balls would be a minority owner hated by his "Partners"

Or, Balls thinks it his way to get a foot in the door of a failing franchise. When he looks at the numbers and realizes he can't win, he's *BLEEPED*

I highly doubt Boots is able to just sell his share to the person of his choosing.

Agreed. It would be highly unusual if his interest was not subject to a "right of first refusal" that would permit the other owners to buy him out if he wanted to/had to sell. Moreover, since he doesn't own the majority of the interests, he has no control over the partnership/ownership group.

Agreed, it seems quite farfetched to think that Balsillie would move towards buying up Boots' share.

Also, count me in as one of those who don't think this will be a huge deal for the Predators franchise other than a few cross words from the media.

Is there any possible impact to the payroll?

Don't follow the team closely but had seen comments the new ownership was prepared to increase payroll for 08-09. Any insight into whether Boots' problems could impact that?

Hard to say, really. I've read articles that said that Boots was not really expected to take on the brunt of the financial burden (read: player salaries), but that 27% share he has makes me worry that he was.

I guess if we trade Weber for picks and prospects, we'll know the answer to this question...

Freeman stressed that Del Biaggio is no threat to the team or the city – they have similar interests. He is being brought in because of his passion for the game and expertise in the NHL ownership world. He said Del Biaggio cannot become the majority owner under the binding agreement.

Admittedly, he could use this as an opportunity to prove himself as a good doggie and get a shot at another team in a few years... but I just don't think he's smart or clever enough for that. And it definitely won't happen with Rodier as his lawyer.

So someone is lying if it's Freeman, well ouch that hurts. If it's the writer...why doesn't he just write a fiction novel and try to sell it, there would be more money in that.

Here's the details of Boots's bankruptcy filing

$57-million in personal debts. What a mess.
