I don't know if a thread like this has already been made but......if Jagr leaves (I'm not trying to be a pessimist), the odds are that our captain and 2 alternates are all gone. Who gets the C and 2 As?
I say Drury gets the C.
Gomez gets an A.
If they Bring in Jason Smith he gets an A.....if not I say Avery or Staal or Callahan (I know the last 2 would be longshots).
If all three are gone, and no standouts are brought in, I say Drury, Gomez, and Betts get the letters. most people assume Drury would be captain, but I think Gomez has just as much of a chance.

What does everyone think?
i say name a captain and let the players on the ice earn the A. The Wild does this and I think the Thrashers do as well.
You would have to assume Drury is higher on the totem pole than Gomez based on the fact that when our alternates were out of the lineup it was Drury who wore the A.
Here we go with the 'insert random rookie here' deserves an A.
None of those guys deserve an 'A'. Not even close. Callahan? Hell no. Staal? About as quiet as anything. Avery? You kidding, honestly, you want to give SEAN AVERY a position that boosts his confidence in thinking people should follow in HIS footsteps?
If Jagr comes back, he keeps the C Drury an A, Betts should get the other A. He has been here a long time now, he does so much with little fanfare & reconination, he deserves it.
How is he in the locker room, though. He is a quiet guy.
However, he is a very respectable player and person. I can see him having a conversation with refs and the refs taking his opinion with respect. He is a veteran at this point.
He is a guy who leads by example on the ice with the things he does. He does not score, but he is not here to score, he is here to shut down opponents.
I think Gomez could make a great captain. He's always in a good mood, and despite some people's claims that he's only a "support" type of player, I think he can be a great leader of this team. However, it's Drury's all the way imo. If Jagr leaves of course.

to be honest id rather have struds as captain, i know it might be dumb, but our best player does not have to be captain, remember brian leetch, he could not be a captain but was a better player without the c. what if gomez is captain and has a bad year, then what, too much pressure. was gomez ever a captain of any kind in jersey???

No offense, but you can't make the worst player on your team the Captain. Struds will be lucky to even be on the team next year.

Well, Gomez claimed that part of the reason he came here was because of the pressure and a chance to play under the spotlight (that's what I remember at least). I'm sure he won't shy away if the Rangers decide to give it to him
Drury is still the no-brainer though. Everyone respects the guy
