He'll find a taker pretty quick. The guy can log big minutes and can be a solid top 4 elsewhere.

That is excellent news. I think Kalinin is awful. It will be nice to never have to see him in a Sabres jersey again. So far this offseason has been very good. Props to Darcy!

I had big hopes for Kalinin a couple of years ago. He hasn't lived up to my expectations yet but I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him.

There's been rumors that some of the bigger Russian teams have given him offers.

He can play some decent minutes. There are a few things his future employer should be aware of:

- If he has any sort of injury/hurt, his game falls apart. Being dinged effects him like nothing else.
- Classically, he does not finish hits as would be expected of him. There isn't much battle there physically for a big man.

Other than that, he can run a powerplay, has a pretty good wrister from the slot (if he can fill the lane late on the rush, he's got some solid skills from the top of the circles in), and plays a decent positional game.

Sens pick him up and put him with Volchenkov. He can teach him to play with an injury, and how to finish a check. I'm convinced that Volchenkov could play with any injury, if he was paralyzed from the waist down he would just be even more fearless blocking shots.

It isn't in Kalinin's makeup, he's not going to suddenly turn into something he's not.

he should change his middle name to 'KHL'- clearly the most logical choice for the guy

Yikes.

I was interested until reading this. Ottawa ran Rachunek off too.... another in the long line of failed Wade Redden partners.

I think I'd still be interested, if only because I think we missed having a guy like Preissing last year, who could bring some offense on the 3rd pairing.

Phillips-Lee
Volchenkov-Meszaros
Kalinen-Schubert

Not bad, but not great. On second thought, maybe we just go after Rozsival or Liles instead.

u can have rozsival. as a rangers fan id rather resign mara than rozsival. mara at least plays a solid 2 way game with a mean streak from time to time.

He's got the Magnitogorsk connection. . .

though I'd rather have Orpik and a few other guys that are RFAs, he may be an option for Pittsburgh.

Remember, he doesn't exactly play for a team with the tightest defensive system.

What he suffers from cannot be taught.

I'd like to think he can rebound and get somewhat close to where he was projected to be/showed flashes of in past years. But it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't get any solid offers and goes to Russia.

Kalinin is really hard to figure out.

When he plays with confidence, he can be a very good defenseman, and one can argue that through the first two playoff rounds in 07 he was actually our best defenseman. But once he gets hurt, he just goes into a funk and takes months before he realizes it's safe to play again.

If he is paired up with a solid veteran defenseman he can be a good addition to some team out there. But I think his future with Ruff in Buffalo is over. Ruff has got on his case repeatedly before, but once he gets into that funk, he just can't get out of it. Maybe a change of scenery would do him well.

God I hope the sens pick up Kalinin, we don't want you guys getting any better. Adios Dimitri your someone elses problem now...

"Solid top 4 elsewhere" was stated before, I absolutely doubt that... I think someone may try that thinking they can get this kid to live up to his potential, but I don't see it ever happening he's way too mentally soft.
