What can we get for our Defensemen in trade value?
Davison can get us a third round pick in the 04 draft. I think that if Fahey was shipped last year, we could have gotten a second for him, but this year, I think we could get a fourth for him. Preissing+ mid pick= 2nd liner?
Davison is not going anywhere for the time being. He is a physical defenseman who fights and can play 6th defensman. IMO Fahey is still worth a bit, just because he didn't play a lot with SJ doesn't mean his stock has lowered. I'm sure most teams know what SJ's 5,6th defenseman 'problems' were this year. And I can't see Preissing going anywhere unless Gorges or Ford really emerges.
I doubt San Jose will trade anyone except Jim Fahey.
Preissing may have to fend off Garrett Stafford, but not Josh Gorges. Gorges will impress, but he needs to bulk up. I s'pose if Gorges shows up to training camp at 195 he might have a chance. I've got to think he'll start in the AHL like almost EVERY other Shark defense prospect, excepting Preissing, who entered at an older age than Gorges will.
I'd be floored if Ehrhoff doesn't start the year with San Jose. Certainly Christian needs to bulk up. Hopefully he can report at near 205 this coming September. It won't be easy. Hell, I weightlift all the time, eat tons of protein, and if I'm skating every day and weightlifting every day etc, I can't get above 175. Hopefully Christian isn't like me then
I'll be upset if Davison is not the seventh defenseman. There's no way either Scott Ford or Doug Murray outplay Davison heading into camp. This is especially true with Davison continuing to expand his game. I pulled off a couple moves in his limited playoff action that really changed by thinking on Davison, and I supported him before that. He may not be done developing yet, meaning Davison may add a dimension of skill to his game on a consistent basis. One has to root for Davison, as he's a hard-working player. He isn't tremendously talented, but through his hard work he's become quite good. (Talent is when you're a natural at something.)
I hope the Big Four can return in good health. I don't think it's time to trade any of them just yet.
