He'll be replacing MacLean on Coach's Corner.

The Pens should resign him for 1 more year. In hopes of reaching another cup final and winning. Gary knows this team has the potential to go back to the cup and what better way to retire than to go out on top winning a Stanley Cup. He is way to valuable.

There's a handful of clubs that he could conceivably 'go out on top winning a Stanley Cup' on. Indirectly calling Pittburgh to win the Cup next year, only a couple days after the Wings just won the Cup, is extremely pre-mature. For all we, as HF posters know, Pittsburgh could bite the big one after massive change in the Pen's lineup over the course of this summer. We just don't know.

Very true. But with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury, the team can still be a strong contender. You never know what can happen when you get in the playoffs. But Pittsburgh needs a guy like Roberts to stick around and help keep the team in line and provide his value what ever his role might be.

If Pittsburgh is going to sign Roberts it could very well be the Recchi and Leclair situation all over again. They will try to get rid of him but can't by midpoint next season. Sometimes your better letting a guy go then waiting for him to go away.

No.

Recchi's hands died. Since that was his main asset, he became useless.

Leclair in his time, was great in front of the net and could score some goals. Since he wasn't able to do that any more, he became a waste too.

Roberts style of play makes him worthwhile even on the fourth line. In fact, that's where he was during the finals. Neither Leclair or Recchi belong on the bottom two lines of any team. Their talents just aren't well suited to that role. Roberts is always going to be a beast when it comes to playing the body and playing with energy, the two main attributes you're looking for in a 4th line player. He also brings a fair amount of leadership too and contributes in the locker room. That's something that Recchi and Leclair were way too selfish to be able to do themselves.
