Ron Francis, Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Daniel Manzato to a one-year contract. The deal will pay Manzato $522,500 at the NHL level and $75,000 at the minor-league level.
so, will the Canes bring in another backup for Ward (since Grahame is gone)
will Leighton move up, and Manzato do AHL-time ?
Leighton has been offered a one way contract to play back-up. All of us figured it was going to be one hell of a battle in training camp between Justin Peters, Daniel Manzato and Kevin Nastiuk to see which two guys get to play in Albany but then Rutherford said Nastiuk won't be re-signed. Poor guy, he played well this year up until being injured. Some other team will pick him up, though. He's still a decent prospect, just got caught in the numbers game.
