I love the Cole idea I mentioned it in a different thread but I wanted Williams too. For maybe higgins and a 1st and a young second teir Dman. This trade would add the grit and experience the habs need.
I disagree...I don't want to give up that much youth unless we get a star coming back.
The team made huge progress last season and is gelling extremely well as a unit. Gainey's been absolutely ruthless about moving guys out (Ribiero, Huet), but right now he seems to be happy with the core he's got. I could very much see him going after a big UFA or moving around picks and prospects at the draft, but I'd be shocked (shocked I tell you) if he substantially altered the roster by trading guys away.
You really think this team needs a star to win??
I believe we have Markov, Kovy, Saku and hopefully Price filling out the star area on the team. I don't think Montreal needs more scoring but they need a few experienced guys with grit and hopefully right handed.
A little help on the faceoffs would be nice, which I still can't figure out way Montreal is not better with the guys behind the bench.
I don't think it's a matter of whether Gainey does something, he always does something, he makes offers. They've identified a lot of players as 'the guy' they want, it's just a matter of being succesful.
I believe he wants a forward like he did at the deadline.
I heard on one of the shows that during the WC, Koivu lobbied hard to woo Selanne to Mtl for one last year. True or not, I don't know, but I believe Gainey will look at him, Sundin and Hossa. If they have other ideas, and there's a case that can be made for each as to why they wouldn't accept, there's not much that he can do.
It can be ticklish because the $ spent on Streit, or whether even to make a realistic offer, can hinge on the above 3 guys.
I don't think Jagr will see the market. I think it's 90% NY and 10% Russia for him.
The only way I could see a key player on the roster leaving would be if they have to move a ytoung guy on the brink of making nice cash, to clear space for a Hossa type signing.
I have no instinct as to what'll happen, but I think the priority is a winger.
That would be so boring. We don't need second round picks, we have like 15 guys in the system with this talent. We really need someone with an extra notch potential wise.
25 is only 5 picks away from the second round. I'd rather accumulate a bunch of picks in the second round and go with boom/bust offensive types than draft safe with one first round pick and hope he pans out.
Whoever we're getting at 25th will probably be a guy ranked in the second round anyways.
