I disagree...I don't want to give up that much youth unless we get a star coming back.

The team made huge progress last season and is gelling extremely well as a unit. Gainey's been absolutely ruthless about moving guys out (Ribiero, Huet), but right now he seems to be happy with the core he's got. I could very much see him going after a big UFA or moving around picks and prospects at the draft, but I'd be shocked (shocked I tell you) if he substantially altered the roster by trading guys away.

I think Bob will make a deal or two.Im not saying it will be a blockbuster but it will be an impact player.

Also draft picks if some are traded for this year I expect Gainey will want picks for next year in return

1. habs end up with kolzig

2. halak is in some sort of package deal

3. habs pick as normal

4. bob tries to sign hossa (would not trade 3 players at deadline, and then at ufa time not try to land him)

5. i bet he tries to sigh sundin too

6. still feel if above does not work, bob tries for P. Marleau ( and the leafs wilson have to contend with him on the habs)

7. as the 100th year of the habs, bob will not sit on his hands this year, he had a 5 year plan, and now is the time to take a run.

8. if we make a deal, i could see a tougher , big d man in the works.

9. chipcura wil replaced smolinski.

10. ditto, Bob will make noise this year.......the time has come.

Gainey will get a right winger to play with Saku: Martin Havlat.

And he will get a rh, good face-off center for his third line: Jaret Stoll.

Chipchura, Grabovski, Halak and a pick will get us those two players.

He will get a vet goalie like Kolzig, Lalime or Marc Denis to support Price.

I can't imagine why Korneev would have any value at all to an NHL team. If the Habs can't lure him over, why would anybody else be able to?

A star

You really think this team needs a star to win??
I believe we have Markov, Kovy, Saku and hopefully Price filling out the star area on the team. I don't think Montreal needs more scoring but they need a few experienced guys with grit and hopefully right handed.
A little help on the faceoffs would be nice, which I still can't figure out way Montreal is not better with the guys behind the bench.

- go hard after Sundin and Hossa, with the expectation that at least one of them will not sign here (maybe consider Naslund as a fallback option?)

- if unsuccessfull with both UFA's, try to make a trade for a Marleau or Tanguay type forward (not as ideal as Sundin or Hossa, but due for a bounceback year)

I think you are bang on.....

And I have visions of Sundin wearing a #13 CH sweater.

Aaron Asham
Martin Lapointe
Curtis Brown
I really want Chelios back for his last season and for the 100th. Any body think he can be our Brisebois for 2009?

For the draft, I think they will trade down with their 1st pick, maybe for 2 2nd round pick of Phoenix?

I'd say draft as normal with a possibility of us moving down to acquire some of Phoenix's second rounders.

That would be so boring. We don't need second round picks, we have like 15 guys in the system with this talent. We really need someone with an extra notch potential wise.

I don't think it's a matter of whether Gainey does something, he always does something, he makes offers. They've identified a lot of players as 'the guy' they want, it's just a matter of being succesful.

I believe he wants a forward like he did at the deadline.

I heard on one of the shows that during the WC, Koivu lobbied hard to woo Selanne to Mtl for one last year. True or not, I don't know, but I believe Gainey will look at him, Sundin and Hossa. If they have other ideas, and there's a case that can be made for each as to why they wouldn't accept, there's not much that he can do.

It can be ticklish because the $ spent on Streit, or whether even to make a realistic offer, can hinge on the above 3 guys.

I don't think Jagr will see the market. I think it's 90% NY and 10% Russia for him.

The only way I could see a key player on the roster leaving would be if they have to move a ytoung guy on the brink of making nice cash, to clear space for a Hossa type signing.

I have no instinct as to what'll happen, but I think the priority is a winger.

Uwey, I'd take Asham back in a heart beat! They should have never let him go in the first place. His a role player we could use.

25 is only 5 picks away from the second round. I'd rather accumulate a bunch of picks in the second round and go with boom/bust offensive types than draft safe with one first round pick and hope he pans out.

Whoever we're getting at 25th will probably be a guy ranked in the second round anyways.
