If Jagr leaves but Shanny comes back, does he take the "C"?

Also, I would love to see Avery with an "A". That alone would give the Rangers a worse reputation than the Flyers.

Gomez or Drury for captain. Girardi could get an A. is a leader on the ice. He has usually worn an A throughout his hockey and I think even a C growing up.Obviously if Rosival is back he would have an A. Shanahan too.

How do you know how a guy is in the L.R.?.......are you there?
I agree the rookies are not ready but in interviews presented on "On Demand"....Dury, Gomer and Shanny all have said Callahan's influence on the team was critical given what he brings to the Team. Also, they all said he is what the Rangers are all about..hard work and dedication to team play...Pretty impressive comming from future Hall of Famers that have been around a bit.

Did the interview...

specifically ask about Cally or did they talk about Cally on an unsolicited basis and didn't say much about others? Being senior members of the Team, it is their job to encourage other members of the team. While it's nice to hear, it's also to be expected.

I think Drury, Gomez, and Betts should alternate the C and the A's.

The reporters asked each of them specifically about Cally. You can watch it on "On Demand"

Smith played on Edmonton for a long time........was Sather their at that point?.....if so it's logical to sign him and pair him with Staal

regardless Phystical D man and offensive D man

I really like Redden too but the cap is taken into consideration

What about Campbell.................I would be ok with that huuuuuuuge signing as the major move and then just resigning Avery and Jagr and dealing for a more physical affordable D man.......Prucha and Hollweg are assets to move

smith isnt a top-pairing defenseman anymore....he would be on the botom pairing on the rangers now....which is still good because he battles and will clear the crease....

campbell is going to be WAYY overpaid...we are talking 7.5-8 million for a guy who isnt that good defensively.....i would rather sign redden as he will most likely take a 4-5 year deal for 6.5 or less....

My ideal situation is no Shanny, Jagr or Straka so I say:

C-Drury
A-Betts
A-Gomez

C: Jagr
A: Drury
A: Gomer

once Jagr leaves, Drury will be captain and I think Dubie gets the A. If Jagr doesn't re-sign for next year, it'll probably be Bettsy though since Dubie will only be a soph.

A - Gomez
A - Rolston

Or make Drury & Gomez co-captains.

First off if Hollweg is an ASSET then this team is in more trouble then I could possibly imagine.

Second, whoever said Campbell sucks defensively and that Redden is better does not know his ass from his elbow. Im to lazy to go and find/post all the numbers again, but of all the UFA dmen Campbell had the best numbers. Most points, and an equal +- so of course deserves the money. Campbell is everything the Rangers need and Redden is way to injury prone and for 1 mil more Id rather the extra offense that campbell provides.

Redden with a +11 and 32 points

Campbell who is I believe 2 years younger +8 and 63 points.

If your going to cheap out on 1 mil for 29 points then thank god your not the GM of the Rangers. Redden will get 6.5 and wont be worth **** compared to Campbell at 7.5

If not Campbell, then Streit is the only other viable option, maybe Liles if we thing Sanguenetti will actually be able to produce at the NHL. Honestly you base it around Sanguenetti, if the Rangers see a spot for him to be that puck mover then sign Liles as a stop gap untill he is ready. If not then make the move now and sign Streit or Campbell.

i said that and i will back it up:

campbell is below average in his own end....period...he is bad, you are paying for an offensive defenseman who skates all ove the place....he will be getting 8 million, which is absolutely rediculous.....he is a pp specialist and not much more.....have you ever watched him for along period of time...i got to watch him all the time as i live in buffalo....there is a reason the sabres paid vanek and not campbell.....one-dimensional, doesnt have good size or defensive awareness

redden had an off year, yes, however i got to see him play quite a bit and considering that ottawa was playing horribly and no one looked good, although their defense was horrible....he needs to play with a stay-at-home defenseman, like a staal, however he has the ability to truly run a pp with his passes....he is an elite passer and can play legitimate #1 minutes whereas campbell can not due to his defensive lapses which occur all too frequently....

the age factor i understand, however with sanguinetti a couple years away or so i would rather sign redden to a 4-5 year deal instead of campbell at 8 million for 7-8 years....

now in no way am i attacking you as a poster, however saying someone doesnt know their ass from their elbow doesnt make it seem all too friendly of a post, howver i will take it as a kid and hope thats what it was.....we are all rooting for the same team here and we may have different ideas, however i do back mine up and while i am no where near the most knowledgable person here, i am not the least either

It will be interesting to see just how things work out if indeed Shanny, Straka, and Jagr don't come back. If 2 of the three come back you know it's going to be Jagr as the Captain with said Shanny or Straka with an A, and Drury with an A.

If only one of our veterans come back (the Straks, Shanny, Jags group), then it will be interesting to see who takes over the second 'A'.

I for one can definitely tell you that so long as Tom Renney's running the show, Staal/Dubinsky/Callahan (all these proposals here for the really young guys), will not be wearing an 'A' for some time.

Wait I forgot

No matter what the situation with the players, it isnt a debate for C thats already owned by #11, its a battle for alternates.

I'd like to see Mara get a letter as well. Has always seemed to be a good team guy. He gets my vote after the two obvious choices of Drury and Gomez if Jagr is gone.

O and by the way, first post.

So, Hello.
