The "passive" offiside rules apply here. He isn't part of the play therefore does not play a part in an offside call.

Regardless, the better team won.
If he was behind the line before the free kick was taken you would have a point, but it was a result of the immediate play.

It isn't Hollands fault that Panucci is a *****. He should of sucked it up.

Ehem...so many people said Italy would win...

The Netherlands controlled the game, all the time.

The first goal wasn't offside, because one Italian defender bumped into Buffon, and stayed behind the goal-line, but as the rules say "a defender can not get away from the play" like what happens when a midfielder is out of the lines, he then isn't in the play. So the goal counted, as it should. (Passive offside doesn't apply here, 'cause he's a defender)

All players played great, and we have stars at every position.
Forward: Ruud van Nistelrooy, great veteran. (and more)
Midfield: Wesley Sneijder, great shot, great allround. (and more)
Defense: Khalid Boulahrouz, no-one gets by him. (and more, Giovanni van Bronckhorst )
Goal: Edwin van der Sar, great captain, great saves. (we even have more goalkeepers)

HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!!

The fact that it could have been 5 (maybe even 6) to nil should push aside what 'some' are classifying as a questionable goal. It was clear that the Dutch outplayed Italy in every aspect of the game, excluding diving of course.

Why is it I love to see the playboys down on themselves.

Really? Italy had no chances? The Toni miss, the Pirlo free kick, the chance by Grosso? Let's not go overborad.

To answer you 2nd question: because you are jealous.

LOL no. I won't say Italy didn't dive (Then again, I dislike most of the players that did it), but the Dutch did it a lot too.

Except for "you have stars at every position". If they are all stars, why have they never won anything on the International level for Holland - or even reached a final?

Right... but that goal was good regardless of who won or who the better team is.

You're saying Holland never won anything or these players?
Both would be kinda weird...no offense...

Obviously Holland won more often, obviously these players did as well, maybe not with Holland but that's 'cause most of them are really young, and the WC and EC is only once every 2/4 years. For example van der Sar is the Champions League winner, means something right?

You can re-read my post if you want.

Van Der Sar, Van Bronckhorst, Van Nistelroy, Bouma, Sneijder have been around for multiple International tournaments and have won squat. That's the truth and Holland have been under-achievers for over 20 years.

But enjoy today's win. You (or they) deserved it.

Imagine on June 17th, France vs. Italy... Winner goes through the knock-out stage... That would be epic...

I would say there is a good chance of that being the case.

5 players, wow...Sneijder is still young.
Van Basten has always said, since he became the coach that Euro 2008 would be the moment, that's where he wants to make it happen. And the team played great.

Over 20 years is a bit much...

Disappointing tie for France but from the replays I've seen they played well but just couldn't finish...Benzema!!! YOU HAVE TO SCORE THAT! But 1 point is better than 0. As for Italy...

By the way.. I think the goal is good.

Was happy to see the Oranje come through with a huge game. Also was great to see Van Persie get some time. Love it!

Italy should be nervous because they can't score and are facing a strong defensive Romanian team and we all know France starts slow EVERY time then gets stronger and stronger and they will be hungry to beat Italy after the World Cup.

It´s hard to believe (because i´m german) but i cheered for the oranjes. would love to see germany vs. netherlands in the final!
It was really weird today: I was watching the game with about 200 people outside a bar and pretty much everybody was cheering for Oranje, myself included.
Hey, we're talking about a German crowd here ... cheering for the Netherlands?!
Must be the lesser of 2 evils.
But it felt good!
And the Dutch played really well!!

Starting slow and getting stronger is also an Italian trademark.

Yes. But they didn't just start slow... they're in reverse right now.

By the time they get to "slow".. it might be too late. They are not in an easy group.
