Hawks re-sign most RFAs

According to Yahoo Sports, the Blackhawks re-signed all of their RFAs except Rene Bourque. "And that won’t be a problem," said Tallon (which, us Hawks fans hope, means he won't be tendered. We hope.).

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_yl...pe=team_report

I don't know if this is ALL all of our RFAs (i.e. AHLers), but I infer that we at least signed Ladd, Crawford, and Hendry.

Why is that? From what I understand Bourque is a decent all-around player? Is that not true? Looking at his numbers, he looks like a good PKer, having 5 shorties this last season, and getting top PK minutes. I seem to recall him being a decently physical kid, who's certainly a very big guy. So what am I missing? Why the animosity?

I like the Ladd signing assuming its for under $2mil for a 3rd line spot.

Crawford is the likely backup/tandem this year so this was a no brainer.

Hendry was likely signed to a two way deal to give some flexibility for the Barker situation. Which is a smart move.

Bourque has not come close to living up to his offensive potential. He should be a 20 goal scorer by now but for whatever reason shows zero confidence or creativity 5 on 5 in the offensive zone. He is just damn frustrating to watch for those reasons.

If we sign him for around $1mil as a 4th liner and PK specialist I'll be happy.

Eh, he's a good fourth line penalty killer. It's just that this is pretty much his ceiling, and most Hawk fans would be more interested in getting a better look at Kontiola or Bolland. He needs to play a much more physical game if he wants to stick around.

Glad to see that happen. Hawks are my i guess "#2" team. I want to see what the team could do with Kane and Toews a year older and a year under their belt in the NHL as well as the key RFA's signed and ready.

He's just one of those incredibly frustrating players where the sum is significantly less than the individual talents. Even though he's big, he plays Charmin soft, and while he's got good PK instincts, he's absolutely invisible on 5 on 5 play. There are 5+ prospects in the organization that I'd rather see getting his icetime next year.

Has he always been a soft player as a 'Hawk, or has it just been since the injuries? I swear I recall reading about him being a big physical guy, at least in college or in the AHL. The guy just looks mean.

Never saw him before the NHL, but he's not a physical guy. He uses his size well enough, and isn't afraid of being hit or using his body to shield the puck, he just doesn't hit with malice. He works hard enough and plays decent enough defensively and every once in a blue moon he'll pull off a pretty nice offensive play, but those come at the cost of some of the worst whiff's on open-nets/shanked one-timers/slapshots fifteen feet wide you'll ever see. Just a frustrating player to have on your team. He's an NHL player, but one I hope to not see wearing the Indian Head next year.

I think that Ladd is really going to break out this season with Chicago. He won't have as much pressure on him as when he was with Carolina. Assuming he can stay healthy of course.

Ladd is signed for 2 years, $3.1 million. I don't have anything on the others in this announcement.

That's a good deal for Ladd, would have preferred a longer deal but you can't have everything.
