Had to think he was close. I would have passed on him as well. We should never have made that deal that sent him to LA but some things are not meant to be.
Ahh yes, the "Signature Trade" of the Neil (What Oiler fetish?) Smith era..,Ferraro,Norstrom, LaPerrier and Nathan Lafayette to the Kings for a washed up Jari Kurri ,Marty McChucklehead and Shane Churla.

Yep , one of the dumb trades they made .............another reason they missed the playoffs for a 7 or so yrs in a row................was'nt this the McSorley deal......was Kurri in it too?

I still maintain that this team sealed it's long term fate with the Amonte and Gartner trades and overpaid for Tikanen, but this was the deal that pretty much finished that off.
I still remember the play where Norstrom fell hard in our own crease and seperated his shoulder. I could be wrong but I think that was the last game he played for us. What a shame and what a terrible trade. Would have been nice to see what a Defense with Leetch, Zubov and Norstrom could have done for us.
I remember watching Norstrom and Aaron Miller playing on the top d pairing for the kings in the playoffs one year and thinking to myself, man I wish we had two guys like that. Instead we thought it was a good idea to trade Miller for Joe Cirella. Good times.
leaves only 2 guys left from the 94 finals...can u name em?
Zubov and Kovalev.
Props to Linden on a hell of a career. He's as classy as you're going to find a professional athlete. All you need to know about him is what Iginla and the Flames did for him in his final regular season game.
Always was amazed out how quickly his offense disappeared though.
Very similary career arch to Muller. Pretty much done as a leading scorer by the time they were 28 (when they should have been entering their prime), hung on for another decade as a valuable bottom six checker.

i wonder if Stu Barnes is next to retire, pretty much another good leader to hang them up. always enjoyed watching barnes, norstrom, linden play. i wonder what happens when brindamour retires

Brind'Amour will not retire. He is a freak of nature, just like Chelios is.
how about linden a future hall of famer?? think about not only him as a player, but his off ice contributions, i say he gets his. and that number 16 will look great in the rafters at the general motors place in vancouver
I am also reading that former Ranger Tomas Kloucek will play in Kazakhstan.
Apparently Kazakhstan has huge ambitions in hockey. They certainly have the money.
They already have one of the premier teams in cycling. hockey, soccer could be next

Isn't Kazakhstan one of the countries that will have a KHL team?
I thought Norstrom was a so-so Dman at the time so I didnt think it could hurt. Yeah, I was dead wrong. That trade, was so so bad, our team was rolling that season, it was such bad timing. I like Neil Smith but he always tried to stay one foot ahead of everyone and at times it burned him.
Good to see Matty have a great career though, he was solid for many years.
Linden was a beast when he came on the scene. He was the reason Vancouver lasted 7 games against the Rangers in 94, IMO. What a warrior he was for that team. Class guy too.
