Forward:
RFA - Corry Perry

Defence:
UFA - Nolan Pratt

LINES:
Andrei Kostitsyn - Saku Koivu - Corey Perry
Christopher Higgins - Tomas Plekanec - Alex Kovalev
Guillaume Latendresse - Kyle Chipchura - Sergei Kostitsyn
Steve Begin - Maxim Lapierre - Tom Kostopoulos
Mikhail Grabovski, Gregory Stewart

Andrei Markov - Mike Komisarek
Roman Hamrlik - Nolan Pratt
Josh Gorges - Ryan O'Byrne
Patrice Brisebois

Carey Price
Jaroslav Halak

Give Perry around 5.1 per/5 years. That would cost us 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick, that should all be late picks. He would give us a skilled and physical RW we are missing, that would compliment Koivu nicely.
Pratt would be quite cheap and would add size to our D and it would give us time for our young D to develop, as I do not see O'Byrne a #4 defenceman at this time.

Hammer has been effective no matter who was beside him last year....

Notice how carbo always paired hammer with the weakest defensive D on the team....

Breezy, Streit, and O'Byrne (raw rookie) almost always got paired with Hamrlik.

I see Rozisval as better than all those guys....

I also see him filling the void of Streit on the PP.

Antti Miettinen
Brooks Orpik

For some reason these two have been among my favourite players for a few years now.

I would like Sundin but that's not gonna happen.

So:

Morrison
Brad Stuart

I almost forgot about Morrison being a UFA. He wouldn't be a bad addition, and would add more offense than Smokes did this year.

Well i kept it down to two player but i didnt see an attacker i wanted that much. Maybe i should've specified we could take two D or two Attackers if we really wanted. Sorry.

Because he's a good team player who will add offense to our 3rd line. He wouldn't be my 1st choice. But if we are unable to sign any of the bigger name UFA's, he would be a good back up plan.

Without a doubt. Toughness at forward and can play. Toughness at defense, and can play. Just what the Habs need.

1. Mats Sundin
2. Brooks Orpik

Guillaume Latendresse-Mats Sundin-Alex Kovalev
Sergei Kostitsyn-Tomas Plekanec-Andrei Kostitsyn
Chris Higgins-Saku Koivu-Matt D'Agostini
Steve Begin-Kyle Chipchura-Maxim Lapierre
Tom Kostopolous

****Note that the first 3 lines would all get roughly equal ice-time (ie. 16-18 minutes per game). So call them 1A, 1B & 1C.

Andrei Markov-Mike Komisarek
Roman Hamrlik-Brooks Orpik
Josh Gorges-Ryan O'Byrne
Francis Bouillon

****Personally i wouldn't sign a UFA defenceman, but im just playing by the rules!

Sundin/Hossa.. no brainer.

In a more realistic way I'd say Hossa and a shutdown center.

The OP took Hossa out of the equation P, so you'll have to choose someone else.

Forward: Sundin
Defense: Orpik

ok, I'll go with Shanahan then. He's still got a couple of good years in the tank and he is the type of gritty leader who can score 20-25 goals that we need.

I know he's slowing down and injuries and age are starting to catch up. But I've always wanted to see Shanahan as a Hab. Another old school choice for me would be Selanne.

gainey wont sign any top 6 D IMO. O'Byrne should get a full time spot, and Gorges has played himself into a full time role. Bouillon is the weakest link but I think gainey will just ride franky until his contract expires and at that point, you would figure that one of our young D-men within the system (ie valentenko) can step in. The D is set.

I think adding another skilled centre with size can give montreal 3 very dynamic and balanced lines. Mats Sundin fits the bill.

other than that, I think the habs can use a 2 way winger with size and character... a guy who can play on one of the top 3 lines and is playoff tested and proven. I'm still deciding on who that guy might be... ideally, he would serve as a "bridge" player for pacioretty.

#1 priority: Sundin

#2 priority: a top-4-capable veteran d-man... Mattias Norstrom actually would have been on my radar here. Orpik, Jason Smith, Brad Stuart are pretty good names to consider, although I have to think maybe Orpik and Stuart would be looking at money and term that kind of pushes them past the boundaries of what I'd be looking at.

Things we don't need:
- a veteran backup NHL goalie (no Josephs or Lalimes or Kolzigs svp)... but we may need an AHL guy at the level just below these guys, depending on the Danis situation
- any of the softer middling offensive types (Brunette, Huselius, guys like that, no thanks)
- any depthier 4th liners or 7th d-men types... we have Begin/Lap/Kost/Dandy, and if we sign a #4-ish defenseman, then O'Byrne is actually our #7. So we're okay there. We may wish to add some AHL-calibre options at D if Biron/Degon types aren't back.

Forward : Brian Rolston

Defensemen/Goalie : Norstrom/Smith/Orpik. The first two will give us a very experienced and solid stay at home 2nd pairing with the Hammer + would add leadership while Orpik is just a badass and i love his style of play (despite him being dirty once in a while)

If we lose Streit, who will play the point on the PP..? Markov/Hamrlik/Kostitsyn? We'll need a 4th.
