Sharks hire Todd McLellan as head coach

http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...69/1048/sports

To be announced tomorrow (Thursday).

(As the Sharks have sent a contingent to the NHL Awards ceremony in Toronto, including GM Doug Wilson, I might assume that the announcement will be somewhere in Toronto tomorrow.)

Maybe not the right spot, but a sub-forum that deals with the hirings, firings and signings of Coaches, GMs, Scouts and just about anyone else would be interesting.

God forbid somebody actually make a coaching hire that isn't the same recycled coaches that everyone knows and loves... to hire and fire.

I'm jealous...I wanted him or Dineen to coach the Avs. I think this will be a very good hire for San Jose.

The guy knows what it takes to win and he's helped develop the Red Wings over the past few years, but I think the Sharks need a bit more depth before they can win the Cup, despite what people say.

Vancouver had pretty good luck when they hired a guy that wasnt that well known in alain vigneult, and washington did good with boudreau, so i think san jose has every reason to do good with him to, i mean he looks like a good guy for the job

I am a big admirer of what the Wilsons have done in San Jose, but I would definitely agree with this. They have alot of youth, a few "stars", and some role players. Another couple of guys in Rivet's mold, who are veterans but still very serviceable and everyday players, in my opinion, would go along way.

Stillman is a guy that comes to mind. Someone like that might be a great addition, who can contribute both with leadership and on the scoresheet

You can obviously never know for certain hiring a first time head coach, but you can't argue that McLellan hasn't earned a shot.

FANTASTIC!
This is the 4th coach in the NHL from Saskatchewan:
Babcock, McLellan, Tippet, and Melrose

(and two Captains Marleau and Morrow)

Given how terrible the powerplay was in 05-06, 06-07, and the playoffs this year, maybe it isn't such a bad thing.

No reason for a team with the personnel the Red Wings have to be posting a sub 22% powerplay.

I would think Torts will go to LA. But maybe Dineen will instead.
