I bet most people (including me) think Ebbett has more potential than Platt and that he is younger. And it is true that this was Ebbett's 2nd season compared to Platt's 3rd. So it does look like he's got a steeper learning curve and isn't just a career minor leaguer.
But actually Ebbett is 2 years older than Platt. It's just that Ebbett played 4 years in college.
That said, Ebbett was the one they re-signed first, so it looks like he has the inside track of the 2 for #2C.
I'd say Ebbett will have every opportunity to be the second line center but by no means is it his to lose. Marchant, Carter and even Pahlsson will probably get first crack at it. I'm sure Randy will flirt with the notion of Ebbett in that spot but he definitely has to earn it. He reminds me a lot of Ryan Shannon (small, fast skater. Slight build) but hopefully he can prove to be more useful. Good signing though regardless. I hope he does well in camp.
