Glad to see, although expected. Hopefully some GM doesn't try to sign Desharnais to an NHL contract. Look forward to seeing what they can do next year.

Are they expected to join the Dogs next year ? With the possible departure of Locke and the graduation of Chipper , Hamilton is going to need some new blood next year.

Hamilton is going to get new blood in the form of rookies, White, Wyman, Weber and Maxwell plus I would think a couple of the ECHLers will get a long look at Hamilton's camp in the fall. Desjardins should be penciled in as the Dogs backup, while hopefully Aubin finally sticks but he better come to camp ready to play, as guys like Desharnais, Olivier Latendresse and Beauregard could force him back to the ECHL, as there's likely only going to be so many spots, as I can't see Gainey going with almost an entire roster of rookies and 2nd year players.

They need a good veteran leader. They need someone who is versatile. They need someone who has a championship ring or two. They need Mathieu Dandenault.

I think if the Habs has exercised their options on the American Hockey League contracts, they are obliged to make them play in the AHL. I read something similar in the newspaper in Saguenay, where he talked about Deshanais and his contract status. Anyway, Desharnais has nothing, but nothing to prove in the ECHL.

Someone can confirm?

With an AHL contract, it just means that the Habs own their AHL rights, so if they play in the AHL, they have to play for Hamilton.

Hamilton Extends Contracts: Beauregard and Desharnais

Caught this on SLAM! this morning. Apparently the Hamilton Bulldogs have picked up the options on the contracts of Beauregard and Desharnais, which means both men will be back in the organization next year in all probability (but won't be eligible for the NHL unless signed and currently not on the 50 man roster).

HAMILTON BULLDOGS-Exercised their options on F Thomas Beauregard and F David Desharnais.

No, they can be sent the ECHL. They had AHL contracts last year too.

As the poster above said, this means their AHL rights belong to Hamilton.

It doesn't prevent being sent down, nor does it prevent an NHL team signing them. Although, general courtesy dictates that rarely does an NHL team sign a guy under AHL contract like that out from under another club.
