Ruutu, Spezza hasn't impressed me as much as his 2001 hype would suggest.
And the "best player in the world" hype that Ruutu had didn't irk you?Ruutu had just as much hype and did not produce as much as Spezza...Ruutu didn't really have to be defensively sound and was getting big minutes, while Spezza had to play good or he was scratched...and Spezza still outscored Ruutu!
Tough choice. But I'm going with Ruutu. I like his physical play. He may not be as offensively talented as Spezza, but if the last month of the season was any indication of the things Ruutu is capable of I'd want him and his physical play on my team.
Ruutu no doubt can dominate when want too ! last month showed it also , he is turning into a point per game type guy , I expect atleast 45 pts from him next season maybe even 60 , but mark my words he will win an art ross , and will be great .
neither will become as good as their comparison but basically i break it down as if i was choosing either Forsberg and Thornton
I guess thats simpler than actually evaluating both players as individuals. In my eyes, Ruutu is closer in style to Thornton than Spezza. Right now I think Spezza plays a style closer to Michael Nylander.
I like Ruutu's game a lot more than Spezza's, and Ruutu played so well towards the end of the season that I really feel he's be a power in the years to come. Spezza is more one dimensional, and I like the two-way players.
I would take Ruutu because I think he's more versatile than Spezza. Although I think Spezza MIGHT score more points in the long run (especially if he gets the chance to play with Havlat and Hossa) but Ruutu can/will dominate the game for years to come.
