Selanne UFA Rumors.

As per RDS.ca

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/253614.html

It says that Koivu is trying to convince Selanne, and Brian Burke says it is a possibility that Selanne signs with the Habs. They do mention though, as we all know, that it ain't the first time the Finnish Flash is linked to the Habs because of Koivu.

I ain't too optimistic about this, but still, it would be awesome!

Hope it's true this time. He would be a great player to have for a year or two. Also, we wouldn't be in a hard situation financially with the upcoming re-signing of Komi, Higgins and Pleks.

I would LOVE to see us sign Selanne. He's still a great player, would probably fit in very well on a predominantly European team, and we wouldn't have to commit to him long-term which allows us to be in great shape to re-sign our UFAs down the road.

That would be interesting chemistry indeed. The only thing is that like several other "Semi retired" players, he appears to be interested in a short season. So if that is the case I am not sure it would be wise.

I really think it is a possibility. I'm sure he convinced him before to come over but our team wasn't as close to as good then and now with our team greatly improving and being able to contend for a cup I think Selanne might see things differently now.

The only problem is Brian Burke would probably talk **** about Saku in the media all year

For some reason, this scenario came to my mind:

July: Koivu succeeds at convincing Selanne to sign here.

October: Koivu expects to get first line time with his friend Selanne but he realizes slowly that Plekanec's line is there to stay.

January: Koivu openly bashes Carbo for his poor choices and start being a crybaby.

February: Koivu is benched.

March-June: A media propaganda starts around Koivu's poor play and attitude while Selanne gets traded to some western team.

July: Koivu leaves us to sign with a rival team and we will regret it for years.

Selanne is another old veteran who is what...a 25 goal scorer at this point in his career. So, he occupies time Latendresse may get on the second line...no big gain. I would rather get a warrior like Shanahan or Roberts.

He scored 12 goals in 26 games last season, and scored almost fifty the year before. I don't see why he couldn't score at least 35 with Koivu.
