Selanne's wife will veto this transaction. So, no Selanne in Montreal.

And what has Latendresse done to deserve second line duties...?

The guy still hasn't learnt how to cycle the puck.

I'd love for him to sign here. He's a total class and not a bad player. I wish he signed here a few yrs ago though.

January: Koivu openly bashes Carbo for his poor choices and start being a crybaby.

February: Koivu is benched.

March-June: A media propaganda starts around Koivu's poor play and attitude while Selanne gets traded to some western team.

July: Koivu leaves us to sign with a rival team and we will regret it for years.
Yeah because koivu is really a guy that puts himself ahead of the team

Thinking about him coming to Montreal makes my head hurt. At first I get excited by seeing this as the core of the top two lines:

XXXXX- Pleks - Kovy
Selanne - Koivu - XXXXX

And then I get worried seeing this as the core of the top two lines:

XXXXX- Pleks - Kovy
Selanne - Koivu - XXXXX

If you could travel back in time from next year and tell me that neither Kovy nor Selanne has a let down year, I would get really excited. I'd rather see 2 guys that weren't at the end of their careers in those positions that are so crucial to production, but the dangerous talent and potential is there.

And I hate speculating about lineups before the chicken hatches, as it were, but that leaves a possibility for a third line of:

Higgins - Chips - S. Kost.

Which I would very much like to see develop some chemistry.

Selanne is one of the great guys in the game of Hockey. It would nothing short of fantastic to get him as a free agent.

On the fear that Saku might get upset if the Pleks line thrives again, I really, really think Koivu and Selanne would be absolutely fine with Kovalev's line getting slightly more primo icetime, putting up a few more points and taking a season-long targeted beating the second line avoids. I think Saku would especially enjoy being on a dominant team.

Selanne's so classy he's not even greedy. If Saku can talk him into it he'll more than earn whatever he asks for.

koivu and selanne together on the habs would literally make me a fan of the habs, haha, but i couldnt see it happening

considering that since the lockout selanne has taken a pay cut every year to be a part of the ducks and after how much they have given him/he's given them, it seems wierd that he'd just randomly abandon just like that even for an old friend like koivu

not to mention his family is grounded in california

He's as good an even-strength goal-scorer as any of the Habs' LWs, and just about as productive in general. Only reason he's not on the second line now is the numbers game.

Like I said, the guy needs to learn how to cycle the puck if he wants any chance at a top-6 spot.

I would have loved Teemu on my team 5-6 years ago. He'll be 39 when the season starts, and the Koivu/Selanne duo has not been that very good at the World Champs. I'd still want him for 1 year, < 3M. Then, Pacioretty takes his spot in 2 years.

He's 37 now and he will be 38 when the season starts.
