If you were Gainey, what would be the most you are willing to pay to move up 4 spots in the Draft?
Habs have the 18th pick, Oilers have the 14th pick.
18th overall + XXX???XXX FOR 14th overall.
Make your proposal.
I wouldn't bother. Okay, if they want something of essentially negligible value like Dykhuis, then I'd do it, but otherwise I just don't see any great difference between 14th and 18th. We don't have a 2nd pick. We need to keep all our other picks.

New Jersey gave up a high 2nd rounder last year to move up from #22 to #17 I think to get Parise, the price is pretty high for moving up.
That was last year, and that was with a specific player available at a specific spot during the draft. Sure, if Tukonen happens to be available at #14 on draft day, give us a call and I'm sure the price goes up dramatically. But from a distance, right now, there's no reason to try to trade up. Whether the price is high or low, it's just not an interesting proposition.
I just find that there are 14 good skaters in the draft.I would be happy of one of those 14. It is possible that none of them are there at 18. However I don't have Montoya or Schwarz in the 14... but I don't think that goaltending ought to be a priority for us at this draft.

Yep, I have to agree with you. This draft isn't considered to be as deep as last years, so unless we're looking for a particular player we really need, I'd would just wait for our #18 pick.
At 14th I am not sure that LAdd will be available because me If I was Bg I would move a few spots to get Ladd because it's a power forwad Ladd will remove the weakness in our prospect rating look Ladd is big, strong,a guy with a lot of charachter this what the habs lack for many years espion your proposal of trade I will do it for sure we have two third rounder but we can have a very good pick at 18th too like CHipchura a big center with a lot of character that what the canadiens need. The Habs have to pick one the 5 guys I will mention in the first round
1 Ladd don't think he will be available but we can move a few spots to pick him.
2 Chipchura this guy I am sure he will be available but guys you remember what B.g said in the press conference in the trade deadline he said we are searching for a big center that means if you can't get one by trading or in free agent that means you will pick one in the draft I think Bg will look for the big center in the first round this year.
3 Valabik a big defenceman that will be a very good pick too
4 Wes O'Neill that will be a very good too but if the habs don't pick him I think he will be still available in the 2nd round but we don't have a 2nd round pick
5 Stafford that will be a very good pick too

Correction: They didn't give up a high 2nd, they gave up the last 2nd. But yeah, it's still a 2nd.
If there's no player the Oilers want at 14, they might trade down, but like Espion said, the dropoff seems to happen right at 14 or 15, so they still might get their guy.
I'd give 18th and Hossa for 14th and a second rounder.
That sounds good to me draft a guy like Smid at 14 and then pick Wheeler or Pineault with the second rounder. To me that would really help out with the prospect pool and its needs.

I might be wrong but i had the impression he was saying the same think by using High 2nd -- High number so bad 2nd rounder.
I would not trade to go up to 14th unless the ultimate player in my book is still available and you dont know until the draft time. This years, there are too many players in the same "package" we would like to have. We will probably end up been as happy with any of the 14-18 players picks so...
