Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe is reporting it over on the Bruins board, he'll be putting his blog up with it soon.

EDIT - What Vic Rattlehead said

Why not? Is it because he didn't sign with the Leafs?

I guess it was the Phil Kessel factor. That and the Bruins could use some help on the wing. Wheeler should get a good chance to show what he can do.

Blake Wheeler, the highly-sought winger from the University of Minnesota, has advised his agent to finalize terms of a contract with the Bruins, a two-year deal that won’t be made official until July 1, in keeping with NHL bylaws that govern the movement and signing of unrestricted free agents.

"More than 20 NHL teams were interested in Blake, and this was a very tough decision,’’ said Wellesley-based agent Matt Keator, who also represents Boston captain Zdeno Chara. "And ultimately it came down to a few things for Blake, but mostly that he was comfortable with where the Bruins were headed as an organization — how this year they brought along kids like David Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Mark Stuart. They’ve done a good job of developing kids, and he wants to continue along that line.’’
http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/...s/bruins_blog/

This, with the news of Soderberg coming to camp this summer, gives the Bruins a lot of youth to choose from. The future is finally looking bright in Boston.

Why doesnt this make any sense? Chiarelli has been looking to deepen his offense for a least a year now and Kessel and Wheeler have some history together if I remember correctly.

If Wheeler does pan out, a Lucic-Kessel-Wheeler line could be awesome in a year or two.

I wanted him for Dallas Caught me by surprise though. I didn't suspect Boston as a true contender, but then again, I don't watch the Bruins that much or at all.

The Bruins are lucky. They get a 21year old, 6'4 player who can skate very well who was recently drafted as the 5th overall pick for free.(as in no assets moved, just a contract given)

No... more because other than his bff he has no reason to play in Boston or Toronto. Its not even like he wanted to stay close to family...

Tell me he has a better shot at a roster spot on the Bruins than the Yotes?

He does. You can say goodbye to Murray and possibly Axelsson.

Why he isn't with the Coyotes still baffles me. That team has as much young talent as any other team in the league.

True, he has a better shot on the Coyotes, but the B's are a team that's on the rise. He'll compete with Sobotka, Nokelainen, and Soderberg for roster spots, but he won't have as much pressure as he would in Phoenix, where he would be counted on for offense.

I'm just happy the B's finally have a pool of young talent: Bergeron, Kessel, Krejci, Stuart, Rask, Sobotka, Lucic Nokelainen, Wheeler, Soderberg, and Lashoff.

Would you want to play NHL hockey in Phoenix? No? Didn't think so

Didn't want to live in Arizona?

Too much travel/defense in the Western Conference?

Who knows.

Free prospect for the Bruins though.

I actually think the Bruins are going to take a big jump next year. Especially if their youngsters can continue to improve.

You forgot to add that he was pegged as a third round selection.

He went to Boston because of their history of developing young talent, eh?

It's a bit of a surprise that someone drafted by the Coyotes has obviously not followed them one bit.

Regardless he's not a top 5 guy.... never was.... that Phoenix pick was puzzling at the time.... and is even more troubling for them today.

That said the Bruins still got a nice coup... regardless of whether he was a guy who should've gone 15-20 or a guy who should've went top 5.
