Young D-Men #3

1. Bouwmeester
2. Pitkanen

Take this poll as if it was your selection in a keeper league fantasy draft. Pick for now, or pick for future, your choice.

Keeper league fantasy? Or NHL d-man?

Because defensive d-men like Orpik are useless in fantasy terms.

Awards:
Those aren't very specific qualifications. For today's NHL, right now, Stuart. Future is Leopold.

Please, add Paul Martin.

I think Barrett Jackman would top this list had he not sustained a long-term shoulder injury that wiped out his season. Though full recovery will likely not occur for another few months or so, I think he's nonetheless the best young defenseman in the league.

That said, for the shorter term I can understand why a quality player like Leopold is receiving well deserved props for a great season. I'd still trade him in a second for Jackman, though. My two cents.

Agreed, but having him on the sidelines gave way to Christian Backman on the blueline, who most Blues fans are equally excited about. I think Backman gets a lot less hype than he deserves.

True enough, and I do like Backman's game a great deal. Jackman has the tools, as do many of the players on this list, but when healthy he has had the kind of snarl and presence that you rarely see in a young defenseman. That has impressed me perhaps more than anything else.

Klesla. The latest and greatest isn't always the best choice.

Stuart

I am assuming it's Brad Stuart and not Mark Stuart.
