Mexican and Columbian. Yes, many Mexicans (and Columbians) are descended from native tribes, but I've never read anything where Gomez talks specifically about tracing his heritage back to any of them. It's certainly possible though

Side note: Gomez is not the first Hispanic player in the NHL. Bill Guerin's mom is from Ecuador.

I'm not sure. His father is Nigerian and his mother is American, but he was born in Canada and has always maintained Canadian citizenship.

I guess he's African-American-Canadian?

It's possible he's half. My Grandmother was half and had blonde hair and blue, blue eyes.

Many may not know, Price's mother Lynda is the chief of the Ulkatcho First nation in the small community of Anahim Lake, B.C. Price himself does not yet have full native status, but he will soon be applying for it in hopes to help expose more native kids to hockey. While proud of her son, she has encouraged him to become a role model with status.

Easier, but kind of incorrect as it would imply he's an American. I have a friend who's family is from Africa, but grew up in Toronto. He's real quick to correct people that he's African-Canadian not African-American. Jarome seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't mind much, though.

While both the USA and Canada are part of North America, some people might prefer to have their country up front and center rather than having it possibly implied that they are from the US. I dunno.

Do you people EVER, and I mean, EVER double-check your sources? Iginla is native Canadian? Setoguchi? REALLY? Next time you have an intention of throwing out something so utterly ridiculous, PLEASE, and I mean, PLEASE use this thing called Google first. It's a search engine that can find things for you, and one of those things is called information.

She's Nicaraguan.

Here's a good article from 2004 about hockey players with hispanic origin. Found it on Google in 15 seconds.

If there are any native Americans in the NHL, their bloodlines are at least mostly white - there are usually less than 100 Americans in the NHL at a time anyways.

Cheechoo and Tootoo are of "Native" Canadian descent.

Ultimately, it isn't important. Blood lines in North America are mixed pretty well - so much so that I would guess there is some American in the league that could claim 1/4 "Indian" status on paper.

BTW you guys calling Iginla an African-American are stupid.

There's only one African-American in the NHL - Mike Grier.

Bedford Indiana to be exact, but he's adopted, so it is possible he was never informed of his "African-american" status.

Dustin Byfuglien is also U.S. born, from Minnesota.
