the deal that landed lindros in Philly looked like this...

- a top ten pick from this year
- 2 future first round picks ( i believe it was 3 for lindros, but with the cap 1st round picks are worth more now than back then)
- 2 youngish gritty role players
- 1 veteran 3-4 dman
- 1 veteran 5-6 dman
- a solid veteran back up goalie or an ahl player or mid-range prospect

so if we tried to put together something similar, it would look like this...

- 1st '08 and a top prospect (Mcdonough/pacioretty)
- 1st 09, 1st 2010
- Lapierre, Latendresse
- Hamrlik (or Gorges and O'Byrne if they don't want Hammer's salary)
- Bouillion
- one of Grabovski/Fischer/Emelin/Stewart

it would be a steep price, we'd have to sign some defensive help, and it would make it difficult to continue building our strong prospect base, but, to land a player of Malkin's caliber, i think i might just bite.

Kovalev- Malkin- Streit
Kost - Pleks- Kost jr
D'agostini- Koivu- Higgins
Kostopoulos- Chipcura- Begin

Markov- Komi
Gorges- O'Byrne (or Hamrlik- UFA)
Dandenault- Brisebois/Valentenko/Carle/Subban/UFA

I realy doubt you'll se a Lindros type deal.
Anyway....why pay all this...just wait and make him an offersheet next summer. (If he's still available.)

My questions are:
Do you want Evgeni in Montreal ?
Do you think that he is capable to brings the Stanley cup back in Montreal ?

P.S. I dont want to nibble with the Penguins fans and I wish them luck, I just think that will be nice if Malkin goes to the Hockeyland

What a stupid question man?

Is Malkin on the block?

I know it's Eklund, but lets look at this for a sec.

Eklund thinks it's Boston. Malkin for a top 3 player+ a top 6 winger + TWO 1st's.

HUMM, whatever Boston brings, the Habs would have them beat if it were, Pleks, Higgins + two 1st's. Both Pleks and Higgins have cheap contracts. Pleks point total makes him a Habs top 3 and Higgins everyone wants and is a top 6.

So what if it's the HABS????????

You'd have to add Komisarek for Shero to even think about it.

NO No, it's not a proposal, it's a comment on what Eklund says is a blockbuster rumor of Malkin going to an east team for a top3 a top 6 winger and two 1st picks.
My comment is , The Pens would want to fix their cap room in one shot. This way they can keep Malone and Staal and Fleury and the rest.

Why would the Pens trade Malkin now? He still has 1 year left at 850 000,people relax if they are gonna move him im sure they are smart enough to go for another push next year and then move him

Also the ruins have Bergeron,Savard and Kessel at center.Im sure they want Hossa and not Malkin

Not sure where it say he thinks it Boston but is George Gillet on vacation?

According to a source who is among those attending the BOG this Week, At least one owner has told his GM and team people to give "whatever they need to" to get the Penguins #2 Center......

The source told me that the deal would consist of one top three winger one top six forward and two #1 picks....

UPDATED: The source just gave me some clues to follow up on. I believe the team to be an eastern team...which does make this more complicated to say the least.

I am also told the owner cut short a family vacation to discuss this, so that is another big-time clue that I can follow

East
Top 3 Player
Top 6 Winger
2 1st Round Picks

If this was supposedly a trade they were trying to get done now before the draft, I'd guess Buffalo who has 2 1st's.

Buffalo (For Malkin)
Thomas Vanek
Drew Stafford
13th Overall
26th Overall

Or, Buffalo could give their 2009 pick, which would likely be more desirable than the 26th Overall. Even then, I consider this gross underpayment for what Pittsburgh could get for Malkin.

How does Vanek help Pittsburgh? His cap is 7.1m$ Malkin will get in the area of 8m$

More like he'll get 9, or 10.

I doubt Pittsburgh would want to play Malkin 3, or 4 times a year, with the possibility of meeting him in the playoffs. Pittsburgh has good forwards, so they'd probably want a good winger and solid defenseman. If Pittsburgh was smart, so they could spread their money over all positions. Bringing in a top 3 winger, and a top 6 forward, will more than likely put them back into this situation where they'll have to get rid of a good forward.

IMO, to get Malkin, Habs would have to give Komi + AKost/Higgins + 1st round + Prospect

Eklund: NYI??
Source: Warmer..
Eklund: Buffalo???
Source: Im not telling ya Ekkiiiiee you pipi!!! Hihihihi..

What the hell is this crap?..
Malkin for one top3..one top6 and two 1st picks? I didn't know Shero was Santa Clause..I should talk to him, maybe now's my shot at signing a contract and playing in the NHL too..

Can't be serious.

A top 3 forward and a top 6 forward plus two 1st rounds ??

Ok, how about Higgins (top 6), A. Kostystin (top 3 potential, just try to picture him alongside Crosby for example), this year 1st round (25th) and next year 1st round (20+ probably)...

is this the kind of offer teams have to make to get Malkin ?

r.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s...

more like, two top 6 forward, a GREAT D prospect (McDonagh for example), two first rounder and either another roster player or GOOD prospect (O'Byrne, Valentenko, Weber, etc)...

When Malkin signs his long-term contract with the Penguins, will Habs fans still start threads like this?
