Over/under on when the hypothetical signings are announced?

Today?
June 18?
July 1st?
Never! Suter will be traded and Weber will be signed to an offer sheet!
I like to read other teams' blogs to see what their views are of their own team. I don't mind the site, because I know that most of the stuff isn't necessarily true. But since he mentioned Nashville 2x and we know he has OK connections here and on the off chance that he is right....

If there is anything good to announce...
I predict June 19. The day before the draft so they can get the media attention Thursday and not so coincidently pimp the draft party Friday night. Then Friday, get the media back to the Predators with the draft. And you know, tie everything together with the signing of a young player to the drafting of another good young player to build the team.

OR June 30 just as everyone is about to have a panic attack that a team is going to come in with a $10m offer sheet.

it's now confirmed.

The Predators and defenseman Ryan Suter have agreed to terms on a four-year, $14 million contract, which will be announced later this afternoon.

Enoch stated that the Preds at most could trade Klein for a 3rd round pick, but the way the salaries are going, if Klein gets an offer sheet he most likely will fetch a 2nd. If this is a case, then why not let Klein and Koistinen fetch offer sheets and match the one for the one player the Preds want the most and collect the picks. Basically it's a win-win for the Preds. If the offers are too low, match them. If the offers are too high, collect the picks for next year.

you can't ever have too much depth, prospect or otherwise

yes, but I also doubt that we carry 8 d-men on the roster this year. I think both Klein and Koistenen would have to clear waivers to go to Milwaukee, so something is going to give on this. I think the offer sheet scenario is a viable option for how to address our abundance of NHL defensemen.

So far yes on Suter but nothing but occasional whispers for Weber.

Excellent point, and I would like to say that I hope we can get more than a third round pick (Klein is much more valuable than a third rounder..) I just feel Poile has squashed his value. If your thoughts on the offer sheet are right, then I would probably say his value is a bit higher than I projected...

---

Comments on the deal:

1) It makes sense for both parties
2) We aren't paying too much for potential. I would peg Suter's value at around 3-3.5
3) This contract takes Suter right up to UFA. He has already been in the league 3 years, add 4 more, and you hit that year 7 UFA rule (I believe).

Can Zubov or Hennessey play wing? Otherwise they won't make it very far in this organization. We're pretty well set at center.
Zubov does play some wing I believe, but I don't think Hennesey does.

Maybe something like Zubov + 4th round pick would be fair.

I like it. If he continues to improve like he did in the second half of the year then this will be a great deal.

At the very least this should finally stop all the Suter for Cammalleri/Umberger/etc. proposals.

ok, Weber it's your turn to sign!!

Now it'll be Weber and Klein instead of Suter.

That is hilarious! DapperDan just proposed (essentially) Klein for Cammalleri!

I say, get what you can for Klein and then maybe Ville. If you need a depth call up you get on the horn and ask for Franson.

Fixed. Franson is still another year away from the NHL. Laakso could pass him on the depth charts this year if he plays well enough.

Once we sign Weber, Klein is long gone. Koistinen might stay because of what he brings to the power play and he and Zidlicky really seemed to mesh in what little time they were together. I wouldn't be surprised to see us flip De Vries and keep Klein, though, and use Zanon as the 7th:

Weber-Suter
Hamhuis-Klein
Zidlicky-Koistinen
Zanon

Or when Zanon is in the lineup:

Weber-Suter
Zidlicky-Hamhuis
Klein-Zanon
Koistinen

I don't think Poile will dump De Vries. I was extremely disappointed in his play at the beginning of the year but he kind of settled in nicely at the end and I thought he played okay in the playoffs. I certainly can't see a Hamhuis-Klein pairing. There is no way Klein is ready to log the ice time that Hamhuis gets.

Well you know Trotz is going to jumble things around on a shift to shift basis so it's not like it matters much what pairings we start with.

More realistically, I expect to see something like this:

Hamhuis-De Vries
Zidlicky-Suter
Weber-Zanon
Koistinen

Look familiar?

I'd prefer to see Klien stay and take Zanon's spot and think it's at least somewhat more likely than Poile dumping DeVries.

Zanon for a 4th rounder anyone?

Anyone knows the numbers for the new contract? We know it's 14 M$ with a 3.5 M$ cap hit, but will he be making less next season and more in four years? It's for my hockey pool. thanks.
