Rangers After Hossa's Rights?

Apparently Eklund has the Rangers as the three teams going after Hossa's rights, take this with a grain of salt.

I hope not. I would rather try to sign him without trying to trade for his rights.

Well, everyone around Pittsburgh is saying he's staying with the Pens, hence the Pens and Jackets negotiating for the rights of Malone.

Speaking of which, I can't believe he'd go to Columbus over testing FA. I'm sure the Pens want him out of the East, let alone the Atlantic, but something about this doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I can't see him signing anywhere when he's 13 days away from the open market.

I agree, but Maybe they'll acquire him then try to package him for Marleau

I don't see the Rangers going after Marleau. And I hardly see the rights to Hossa being the tipping point in any proposed deal.

Sorry, I was referring to the Rangers, not the Jackets.

Either way, I can't see the exclusive rights to Hossa being dealbreaker or dealmaker.

i wonder if the pens would try to get rid of a contract like whitney by trading the rights to hossa with it?.....so they can resign both orpik and malone as they are home-grown

I would say good to the Pens signing Hossa........that will just make them spend all their money on a few players and then they will have no depth and stink like Tampa Bay

go ahead

i know, but they are a team built on skill and offensive defenseman....something malone and orpik help change as they add grit and strength

Yep, and I can't wait.

And I'm gonna give a big NO to Hossa.

sather aint that dumb to trade for their rights, i doubt sather has ever done this. what if sather did this to get Brad Stuarts's rights from the Wings and the deal happened but Stuart decided to go to play with the sharks.

Usually these trades are contingent upon the deal getting done.

well obviously everyone would rather do that...but if the pens are looking to trade his rights that means he won't become a UFA cause the team trading for him isn't gonna make the deal if they can't lock him up. so it depends on how badly you want him. if you can live without him then you wait and hope he becomes available...

I prefer waiting 2 years for Kovalchuk to become a UFA.

By that time Drury will only have 2 more years on his contract, maybe they can move that albatross of a contract at that point, as well.

There is just no end to the amount of poop Eck throws at the wall, hoping it will stick.

If Kovalchuk by some miracle ever reaches free agency, I doubt the cap implications would be any concern at that point. He's the type of player you do whatever you need to do to fit him into the lineup.

That said, I don't see him (or Vinny, for that matter) reaching free agency anytime prior to the age of 35 (or thereabouts). But hey, look at the bright side, at least then the Rangers can sign him on the down-slope.

how could anyone possibly be happy with 3 of the best players in the entire universe all being on the same team, with that team not being the Rangers, and more importantly a team we have to play 6-8 times a year (depending on what they do with the schedule)

Do you really consider Hossa to be a top-level, truly elite talent..?

I definitely do not. While I think he's on the tier right below, even after this year's playoffs I still don't consider him on the same level as guys like Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Kovalchuk, Lecavalier, etc.
