Were Mueller and Ballard his roomates as well during his freshman year?

No, Ballard left Minnesota the year Blake was drafted but Wheeler did go to high school with Mueller.

Phoenix??? The most beautiful city in America??? Scottsdale's pretty nice, but nothing about Phoenix is beautiful.

It's just my opinion, but I think Boston is a heck of a lot more Beautiful than Phoenix.
My sister lived in Phoenix and I lived within an hours drive to Boston, If that was really a consideration, personally, I'd be going to Boston, or, better yet, I'd be going to Vancouver.

Vancouver is almost as nice as Vancouver Island. If you like laid back people and weed it is the place for you to be. Plus it is not far from the Olympics in a couple years.

The kid doesn't want to pay his dues, and he (or his agent) thinks he should be handed an NHL roster spot because he had a couple of decent seasons playing for his hometown team in the Allsvenskan, a.k.a. the Swedish version of the AHL.

P_B

Hmmm, sounds like sour grapes to me. He scored a point per game in the Elestrien, aka the Swedeish version of the NHL, outscoring Nicklas Backstrom and posting numbers comparable to Forsberg and Naslund at the same age.

With the skill and size (something Chiarelli has been preaching all year) he shows, as well as playing LW, Boston's weakest position, I don't see a reason why he will be sent down to Providence.

Well, clearly it wasn't about living at home with his mother.

Then I guess she'll be moving with him to Boston....They'll probably live with the coach/Gm or something to protect Blakey, and she can cook and clean up after him.

Well, I've wasted enough of my time watching him in typically pathetic Gopher games the last few years on TV...so I'm washing my hands of the little priss....

I bid him farewell and in doing so wish to share this:

I'm just waiting for the "alternative lifestyle" jokes about Wheeler & Kessel now.

Phoenix is around the 5th biggest city in America and still is one of the fastest growing cities. There was a 40% increase in the 90's compared to a tiny 5% for Boston which was among the smallest in the US. It's obvious which city most people consider more desirable to live in regardless of your own personal opinion.

Until Wheeler plays in the NHL you have no idea what he'll amount to.

Question

Maybe someone could clarify this for me: didn't Wheeler achieve his UFA status because he went so long (4 years?) without being signed to a pro contract? If this is the case, can anyone say whether Phoenix made any attempt to sign him in previous years? If not, I wonder why people would frown upon a player taking advantage of this rare situation, given that it was brought about, at least in part, by Phoenix's not making a serious attempt to sign him earlier.

The Coyotes made him an offer as early as last offseason, but he decided to go back to school for his junior year.

How?

A buyout? That'd be a dumb decision, unless they go after Hossa, it'd hurt their capspace for next season.

A trade? Don't make me laugh.

Why would a buy-out be a dumb decision? It sure beats paying his slow ass 4.15M to pretend to skate around the ice and fan on shots.

So? The B's just paid off Green's buyout, and that didn't hamper them last season.

Muzz's cap hit would be under 2 million per season, and it would clear off some much needed cap space this season to upgrade.

Why are Habs fans so concerned with the Bruins lately and their decisions?
