I'd like to gamble on Tuomo Ruutu also...if we don't have to overpay.

He would start out as 3rd line center, and maybe move UP in case of injuries (*knock on wood*).

He still, imo, has it to be a solid 2nd line or 1st line center..., no?

Tuomo for who exactly? I think Andrei is better than him.

We could've had Ruutu for Halak at the deadline, if Bob wanted him that bad we could've had him already.

Tuomo Ruutu is on the decline. Jarkko is better and more important than him.

Wow~! What a freakin' Sherlock this guy is!!

Expecting trades close to the Draft is like expecting snow falls close to Christmas!

And they pay how much per year to this Darren Dreger guy to state the perfectly OBVIOUS ...?

Ruutu can play all three forward positions. That's the main reason Carolina acquired him at the deadline, a player like that is excellent to have. Right now he's proving a hard guy to sign, talks have stalled and Rutherford hasn't spoken to him in over a week. He's got a distorted sense of his value, it seems. It's like he thinks he's still the same player who was once the best player outside the nhl and not the third liner he's become. I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded but you won't get him cheap. Moving Ladd for him was a mistake in the first place so he won't be given away for spare parts. One rumor I've seen so far was him and a 2nd for Pitkanen.

Three or four years ago I would've welcomed Ruutu in with open arms, but he is unable to play with reckless abandon like he used to, and that is when he was most effective, due to being so injury prone. Also where would he play? We have Andrei, Higgins and Latendresse taking up our top three left wings.

The trade rumor could've been before Huet was traded so who knows, if Gainey wanted Ruutu that bad he could've dealt a later pick away to get a backup goalie as Huet was only worth a 2nd rounder and he was a good starter.

LOL so true.

Honestly every time he comes up on TSN he blabs on about the most obvious stuff and tries to sound brilliant about it.

I like dreger, but i guess i'm one of the few. I don't see how mentioning cheechoo, cole, williams and ruutu is old news or something. The only thing thats obvious is the title, other than that, most trades are done at the draft and draft trades are prob the most impredictable. Better than a hossa to mtl rumour that isn't going to happen anyway.

When I think of Tuomo Ruutu I always remember that goal he scored against Canada in the World Cup. He is such a talent, too bad he is always hurt.

On the decline at 25 years old? I love Tuomo, he's like a younger version of Koivu with more size a less talent. I'd love to see him with the Habs on the 2nd line with Koivu or on the 3rd line.

Tuomo Ruutu is a classic example of injuries derailing a career.

His knee injuries have led him to lose his speed. He wasn't that fast to begin with but he is now an Anchor on the ice. He couldn't last with Toews-Kane because he couldn't keep up with them on the rush. He played at best when he was on our checking line and PK.

He also isn't that good of a center. The Hawks moved him to Wing after his rookie year and we saw how much he struggled at C. He is a solid LW!

I dont know what the future holds for Tuomo. We loved his hits and style of play here in Chicago but it was clear that he isn't the same player he was when he made his NHL debut.

Getting Ladd for him was a great move. Both seemed to excel in there new homes but if your a team built on Speed Ruutu is not a good option.

Best career potential i see for him now is 20g and 25 assist 3rd line LW!

He is still capable of physical play. We got a bunch of Chicago games on TV here the past season and he had some good games where he was knocking people around. I don't know how consistently he may be able to do so these days, but the physical game hasn't completely passed him by yet.

If we don't sign/trade for a top six winger this off-season, we could simply move Andrei to his natural position on the right. His 53 points last season would have been good enough to put him in a tie for 27th among RW'ers last year, 1 point behind Hejduk, Perry and Demitra. That could clear space for Tuomo on the left if he needs to play that position. The top 9 wingers would be Kovalev, A.Kost, S.Kost, Higgins, Lats, and Ruutu could fit in on the 2nd/3rd to round them out. It's one option at least.

We could potentially play him with Chipchura if lack of pace on the attack is an issue for him, then add someone to round those guys out pending what that duo needs (Latendresse, S.Kostitsyn, D'Agostini...)
