I wouldn't give Komisarek away, even if we could replace him by Luke Schenn, who I think will become the upgrade version of Mike.
As for the forward in West, I have no idea...there's so many! If we do trade for someone, we will probably lose our first round pick, and it would be way less exiting to watch the draft on Friday, but oh well...haha
According to Pierre's daily set on the TEAM 1200 this morning he said that Montreal is trying to move up in the draft, but claims the asking price for a top 5 pick would be Komisarek.
As well Pierre claims that Montreal is heavily pursuing a forward in the Western Conference but he cant say who it is due a confidentiality agreement he has with his source.
Let the speculation begin as to who the forward is and the old Marleau to Montreal rumour to start up again.
The only way I would move Komisarek is if Gainey thinks he cannot get him resigned. If it does go down hopefully, a three team blockbluster type deal which would bring us Marleau and a top 5 pick. Atlanta may be willing to move their pick if Filatov goes to LA(just my speculation). Heard they are looking for immediate help. Doughty or Bogosian may be able to play next season and could be better than Komi in a few seasons
Habs cannot trade Komi if they are serious about going to the promised land next season. Moving up in the draft will not produce an impact in the coming season, and trading Komi+ for Marleau will not happen. SJ made their choice when they fired Wilson, they're keeping Marleau.
Trading Komisarek really doesn't make any sense and I'd assume Gainey feels that way. It does scare me a little that he is a UFA after next season but I really want Gainey to lock him up long term (6-7 years). IMO Komisarek is our future captain once Saku retires.
As for Western Conference forwards...Gaborik is definitely #1 on my list but he would be very expensive in a trade (and rightfully so).
Komisarek is not worth a top 10 pick if he is not already signed to a reasonable long-term deal. Guys like Foote, Smith, Hatcher, all get these giant contracts when they've had a good season or two, but they rarely are able to maintain that type of game and the contracts end up being burdens. Teams in the top 10 should hold onto their picks and have some time to buoild loyalty with their players. Its really unfortunate that the free agency age is as low as 27 because it means that a guy like Komisarek can end up a free agent when he is finally paying dividends to the team that drafted and developed him.
