From TSN: A big, strong, hard-shooting, hard-skating defenceman who will be playing with the London Knights next season.
From NHL Central Scouting: He runs the power-play from the top of the umbrella and he has a very heavy shot. He's a very self-assured kid and rightfully so -- he's a boy, yet in a man's body and very physically strong. He had all the tools – size, skill, physical presence and charisma.
The more I see and the more I read, Carlson is the guy I want them to take.

Our take: The Rangers could use help on the front lines, but Carlson's size and skills package will be tough to pass up. He's a Bryan McCabe-type who finished second among all USHL blueliners in scoring, and made life miserable for opposing forwards with his physical play. He's not afraid to drop the gloves either, a quantity absent from the corps currently patrolling Madison Square Garden.
Sounds like he fills a serious hole on this team if he works out. I'd imagine Rangers brass are taking a long look at him.
I don't think Nashville is going to get another d-man considering they're already overflowing with defensive talent.
They're already taking a forward with their first 1st round pick, and again, Carlson won't be ready for steady NHL minutes for at least two seasons, worry about having too many good Dmen then.

Honestly I think they're short enough of offensive talent that they'll draft two forwards in the first round and a #5/6 d-man prospect in the later rounds. Weber, Suter and Hamhuis are all 25 or younger, I think they're confident enough in that core that they'll focus on offense.
IMO, the first round should be used for defense...becuase of the depth this year, and the second should be used for offense....next year, the first should be used for a forward because of the depth and the 2nd on a defenseman....
