Wow...people here over rate our players!

Gaborik is leaps and bounds over Plekanec, and he has proven he can play without a #1 centre and in a more defensive system than that of Montreal's.

A lateral move? More like 10 steps forward!

I haven't seen it all, but I will have seen something new when I see a June thread that has a caption of "Montreal going to draft at the exact position they've earned". That may give me pause to think I've seen it all.

Without a time machine and access to Timmins detailed scouting notes I am surprised we even speculate on the merits of sending good players to another team for the privilege of moving up a few choices.

Needless to say I don't give myself much credit for my ability to evaluate "moving up" ideas unless they involve franchise players.

If we land a top 2 center then it's not a lateral move.

If we don't land a top 2 center it is a lateral move/step back.

Question...

Gabby has played his career on a very defensive team in Minny. BG has stated that our team will be built on speed, speed, and more speed. Gaborik has wheels...if he was on our team would his numbers increase significantly, slightly, stay the same? Just wondering and it's all speculation...but he could be a really interesting high speed talent in montreal (not that he isnt that already)

Well he finished 12th last year with 1 less point than Kovalev. He would move in the top 10 for sure as the East is more open.

Are some of you really saying that Gaborik is a worse option than Plekanec? Hello? I'd take Gaborik any freaking day. And so would 30 GMs.

To get a guy like Gaborik, you will need to give up lots of talent. Plekanec wouldn't fetch as much. Overrating Habs players is really this forum's forte, isn't?

It will cost a lot to get Gaborik. I suspect 2 regular NHLers (pretty young ones), and a prospect. And maybe a draft choice.

I think it would stay about the same because every players seems to score less in Montreal...but on the other hand, last year, we scored way more than in the past. I guess it his production would go up if we can keep it up in that department.

obviously gaborik would be a great return for us but....we can't part with a center...we kinda are lacking in that department and plek has been improving every year. we would also have to pay heftily to acquire gabby...this in my mind is step backward. because we might have to part with plek..another roster p and prospect (that might still be considered underpayment by some)

I agree with you. That's what I believe too. Gaborik is not a lateral move, but you would have to fill out other holes after. Unless you trade a defenceman on the right side. then, you're ok.

lol Gaborik probably gets 25 goals 25 assists in Montreal because everyone does worse here.

Ten bucks that says we don't do anything that concerns other orgs, aside maybe marginally drafting up or down.

MAYBE the rights to Ryder gets traded for a washer (Let's say...fourth/fifth rounder)

I'm not sure I can agree with that. If anything Lemaire demands more skating in the form of back-checking. Offensively, from the games I saw the Wild play this season, they don't use the dump and chase so players are afforded the flexibility to use their skating and playmaking skills.

true, but gabby might like the offense side a bit better, in mtl

.........i recall us scoring the most goals in the league...and also having one of the top goals for and goals against difference....how would he do worse when the young guys are putting up higher totals each year?????

It was an acute observation that no one lives up to expectations in Montreal. Smolinski was supposed to be the 2nd line centre when signed and he turned out to be AHL material. Many other examples in the past. Just a joke anyways

shhh Smolinski and Kostopoulos production dropped ... zOMG!!!

That 'players produce less in MTL' thing is a myth. Look at Kovalev.. 84points last year 11th in the NHL in scoring and his 2nd best season ever.

Leclair started with us. Won a cup with us and didn't hit his prime until later. I don't think he really qualifies. Just replace him with Samsonov.

Yeah but to go from 43 points in 74 games to 49 points in 37 games and then 51 goals and 97 points the season after that is quite the difference lol.

The Big E might have had something to do with that. We didn't and still don't have any superstars for our guys to feed off of.

ya but like when those guys were around weren't we going through our like 15 years of mediocrity? and savard picked up in his second or third year with us...as for smoke i think it was clear that plek and koivu had secured 1st and 2nd line duties...but correct me if i am wrong
