New rule changes for next season.

Just saw this:

Rule 76.2 on faceoffs, placing the first faceoff of a power play in the defending zone of the team that committed the foul.

Rule 81.1 on icing will state that, "Any contact between opposing players while pursuing the puck on an icing must be for the sole purpose of playing the puck and not for eliminating the opponent from playing the puck. Unnecessary or dangerous contact could result in penalties being assessed to the offending player."

Rule 85.5 on faceoff location, saying that if a puck is shot off the goal frame, goal post or crossbar, the subsequent faceoff will remain in the end zone where the puck went out of play.

No changes to goalie/player equipment, but they are apparently working on that.

More rules to try an increase scoring.

Yup, I'm just glad they didn't change the touch up icing rule. I hate the international style automatic icing. I understand that injuries can occur, but I love when a player hustles to negate it and turns it into a scoring opportunity.

Rule 87.x Upsetting Crosby will result in an automatic game-misconduct.

Pretty good changes IMO.

They trialled the "first faceoff after a penalty is in the penalized team's zone" in the AHL, and I really like it. Whether or not it raised scoring in the AHL, I don't know, but it certainly makes for a more exciting PP/PK.

how about keep all powerplays lasting the full minutes no matter if it is a minor double minor and no matter how many goals are scored. well i would say the rangers but our pp stinks, but say we score 3 goals on a 4 minute powerplay and win the game cause of it. in the old days i think they had this rule unless it was just in the minors.

Actually, one rule I've wanted to see added is to continue OT until all powerplays are expired. I hate when guys just take their man down to prevent a scoring chance when there's only a few seconds left. Extend the game clock and that won't happen nearly as often.

That was the rule until the 50s when the Canadiens would rack up goals on powerplays. The league changed the rule to give the other teams a fighting chance.

Hmm....I really like the rule that if the puck goes off the post and out of play the face-off stays in the offensive zone...sweet.

Even more power in the hands of the refs now. The questionable calls will instantly be more damaging. Not a fan of this rule.

i'm all for this rule as well... I can't stand getting a PP late in OT but you only have like 30 secs of it.

a player that takes a penalty in the later stages of OT that would continue into the shootout should not take part in the shootout.

if jagr takes a hooking penalty with 1 minute left, he should not take place in the shootout.

how about teams can play w/ less than 3 skaters. Say you take 4 penalties in a row. You should only have 1 skater on the ice. Imagine all the fun scoring opportunities.

Jagr ( if resigned ) should never be used in shootout regardless.

I think it is time to repeal that rule for every team except Canadiens. As a precaution.

I'm surprised they didn't revise the rule with shooting the puck over the glass in your own end. I hate that rule. If its obvious that it wasn't done purposely then it should not be a penalty.

Do you play or did you ever play hockey yourself, especially at a competitive level? Touch up icing should be removed.
