As I said, I think if Cheechoo can stay consistent around 35 goals, I don't think you'll find a better deal at his salary.

Sharks would probably like the 1st rounder since they don't have one this season, but I just don't see them moving Cheechoo other than cap space. He was being dangled at the deadline, but they managed to steal Campbell from Buffalo for less. Now, if they manage to move Marleau as is being reported, they won't have any issue fitting everyone under the cap next season. We'd probably have to overpay unless SJ is really dying for that first round pick and a depth player.

how about this for a trade

NYR get:
Kyle McLaren+Johnathan Cheechoo

SJ get:
Fedor Tyutin+Petr Prucha+3rd round pick

Aloows Marleau to stay with San Jose and fills two needs with the Rangers crease-clearing defensman and a winger for Gomez.

I'd prefer Orpik but that might be a good compromise. Not sure if that's enough though, getting Cheechoo for that package is iffy at best the only way we get both of them is if SJ goes into complete salary dump to re-sign Campbell.

Probably pretty even value wise, but I'll pass on the McLaren part of the deal. Isn't he a UFA next season? Something tells me SJ would laugh at that proposal too.

i think we are overpaying actually. It seems as San Jose is trying to get rid of Cheechoo, so why would we give them a very good #3 defensman when Cheechoo is only capable of notching 20 goals on THORNTONS wing, let alone Gomez. I'd do prucha and a 3rd for him nothing more.

If jagr leaves/and in response to the havlat thread, how about:
NYR trades:
1st in '08(#20), 2nd in '09, 3rd in '08(#75), Lauri Korpikoski, Nigel Dawes

CHI trades:
Martin Havlat, 1st in '08(#11), 4th in '08(#102)

So if you break it down into two trades it would be:
1st,2nd,3rd for Tedenby/Boedker/Wilson, and a 4th
...and...........
Korps and Black Magic for Havlat

Both trades seem pretty fair in value, and it helps fill both teams needs. Chicago gets their wish of having the money to target campbell, and we get a top line winger.

???

I'd do it. I would love to have Wilson or Boedker.

I'd like Murray as well, I doubt he'd be available though.

You're wrong about him never playing for Sweden though. Watch this video, the first minute is pretty much him playing in some international competition.

I'm pretty sure he played at the WC this year, but I might be wrong. I don't think hockeydb has added those stats up quite yet.

Watched Murray play a few times while he was at Cornell and the kid was an absolute beast. Could put the puck in the net and no one even dared to come down his side of the ice because they would simply get destroyed. Even when he was making outlet passes players were afraid to come near him.

Never translated to quite that extent at the NHL level, but still, I would love to see Doug in Ranger blue.
