More news:

Dandenault not being bought out. Good move IMO, we already have enough cap space this summer. No need to hurt next year's cap space with a useless ~600 K wasted on Dandenault. Surely we can trade him or just waive him in the fall and some team will claim him for free or at half price.

Pacioretty going back to Michigan for a 2nd year. Told you guys!

Why not keep him as our 7th or 8th defenseman then? We will surely lose Streit and Brisebois, and Dandenault already knows the Montreal system. We wouldn't save so much by having another team take him at half the price since we already know that Gainey will get defensemen to replace him on the reserve squad... I would keep him and play him every once in a while, in a limited role. We will have a player doing that anyway, and Dandenault can play both forward and defense...

Gainey has clearly said that he could trade some young guys AND/OR his 1st rounder to put his hands on a "proven player", as he said.

Chipchura is an expendable guy if he is really aiming short term.

The philosophy has just changed, ladies and gentlemen. Tomorrow is TODAY!

Well, it's not as if it would leave our team naked in the prospect area... Chipchura would be gone, but Maxwell would be in next year, Pacioretty will come pretty soon and let's not forget that a majority of our key forwards are very, very young. I hope he pulls the trigger for a proven superstar scoring center (I avoid the term big since that always lead to some debates!).

Listening on Habsinsideout it sounds as if Streit is gone.

Sounds interesting... I can't wait for tomorrow... as soon as 9am... the frenzy and the crazyness will start.

I got that vibe also....hate to see Chips go as I think he has a bright future. But Gainey is putting big focus on next season and Chips best years are a few years away

I was really pulling for Pacioretty in the AHL this season. Oh well, these guys know what they are doing.

Didn't sound 100%. Gainey gave the 'correct' answer (we're not going to ask a kid to leave school if he wants to be there). He sort of left it open to discussion (depending on what Max feels is right for him).

Very interesting that Gainey flat out went and said he wanted to make a deal. He seldom does so, and given the backlash of a failed trade, it would seem to indicate that he's not only trying hard, he feels there's a high chance of success.

He'd be 4th line center with Lapierre/Begin/Kotso. None of those 4 belong oon the top 3 lines of a top contender.

If Max wants to stay in school, hes staying in school. Last thing we want to do is piss the kid off, like what Carolina did to Jack.

Why would you pull Pacioretty out of Michigan after 1 year? He still needs another year there or 2.

Gainey looking to trade for proven offense on draft day

Quote:

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/254078.html

It seems Gainey wants to acquire some fire power on the draft day. Apprently there are good players available and it is now up to Gainey to see how much he is willing to give.

Speculate.

So i guess even Gainey is looking at a team with Thomas Plekanec as a 3rd line center, very very nice....

C'est du moins le souhait de Gainey qui croit que Pacioretty pourra profiter d'une deuxième saison universitaire sous la gouverne de Red Berenson.

It's what Gainey wants, but Max might decide otherwise.

He's physically NHL ready. I'd say it's time for him to get used to a game-heavy schedule.

But like I said, these guys know what they're doing with their players. I'm not going to question it.

I'll take Gaborik, Sundin and Hossa. And Rolston too. Kubina as well if we can fit him under the cap. No problem.
