For the centennial, I would not be surprised if Gainey goes a little further to get the impact player he needs.

It's not secret we want some size down the center.

How do you know he isn't talking about acquiring Sundin from the free agent pool?

That was kind of funny...

If you're offering a center I'll take it.

Sadly, it would probably be Koivu as the 3rd line centre, or moved to wing.

It's what Gainey wants, but Max might decide otherwise.
Gainey's the boss though, he decides who he signs...I don't think anything short of Pacioretty basically coming into his office on his knees saying '''PLEASE SIGN ME NOW!!!!!!!!'' will change his mind.

Pacioretty going back to Michigan for a 2nd year. Told you guys!

Actually in the audio clip Gainey said "I would encourage him to persue what he has started. But if he comes to us saying he was ready to move on....like O'Byrne did then we would talk."

From the interview it's more like. "I think I'm ready to move on. Can we talk."

I'm wondering why Gainey shut the door immediately to any trades concerning the rights to a UFA player...He does remember that usually, when players have the choice, they don't come here doesn't he???

And since he has no intention in signing any of our UFA's, doesn't he play with fire thinking that they might still sign here even though he let's other teams talk to them especially Streit? If so, why wouldn't he consider trading their rights for a pick???

Pacioretty could have changed his mind but didn't we hear him say that him coming in Montreal would actually has to be Gainey's idea 'cause himself thought it would be preferable to comeback in Michigan?

If so, Gainey wants him to stay, Pac wants to stay, seems to me....he'll stay.....

They both have one year left on their contract I think.
Grabovski's value is about a 3rd rounder if that.

Chips on the other hand I see being in demand.

I stopped hoping for big things when i stayed ALL day glued to my computer waiting for Hossa to get traded to us.

Now I just expect nothing.

Or we should lower our expectations....just expect Pandolfo and Holik and you just might get your wish....

I mean we do need our annual centerman reject of the year....

Yeah, that's a good point. It's just a feeling I guess. He said that they came to Ottawa seeking a trade. Later on they touched on Hossa. Just a feeling I guess. I just think something big will happen this weekend and I think Chipchura will be the guy going the other way. Just a feeling...nothing to really back it up.

I'd rather it be nothing than trade 3 young players for a rental(Hossa).

Would anybody on here be happy trading McDonagh Subban and Higgins for Hossa? I sure as hell would have been pissed.

People whoned at not getting Briere, well Hamrlik cost less and he had a much bigger impact than Briere would have had in his place...making about 2.5 mil a year more.

Or would you? I think it's clear that a lack of finish was what sunk our ship this year. Maybe we were a Hossa shy of a Stanley Cup.

This is finally it guys, our years of loyalty has finally paid off. This year we will have the team we have only dream't of. The team all of you have recreated year after year on subsequent EA Sports NHL games.

I BELIEVE!

Our team is on the cusp of greatness being led by a man who only knows greatness. Look on fellow habs fans for our hearts will not be destroyed but inspired as our squad assembles itself with the power and fortitude one can only expect when aspiring to the Stanley Cup.

In Bob I trust.

To me this statement is pretty significant. Gainey is clearly saying to the media that he wants to land a big fish. We're talking about Bob "secretive" Gainey. I feel we'll make a splash during the offseason.

P.S. 134 posts in 6 years, well that's not a lot
