Carter signed 3/15 will AK get similar?

How close does AK come to Carter's 5 million a year?

Carter's had 3 decent offensive season's compared to AK's one. Andrei will probably sign for around 2 years around $2.25-$2.5 million per year.

Only way I pay him $5M a year is if it's over 6 years.

3yrs/$15M is a terrible contract for the Flyers. They're giving him the money he wants without him giving anything back.

Kostitsyn hasn't earned anything more than Ryder's deals. Unless he signs something ridiculously long-term (5+ years) that has some risers in it.

That is alot of money for Carter, but he's been in the NHL for longer so AK won't get that much money.

You can scratch Jeff Carter's name off the list of potential trade bait this weekend. Sources are telling Sportsnet that Carter has agreed to a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers that is believed to pay him no less than $15 million.

They should have let him sign somewhere else and take a few first round pick in the process. 5 millions is way too much at this point of his career.

Philly is ****ing themselves over with all these big deals.

Briere and Timonen are making over 6 mill.
Gagne, Richards, Carter are all over 5 mill.
Hartnell over 4 mill.
Then Hatcher, Lupul, Knuble, Biron are all making around 2.5-3.5.

Also UMMMMMMMMMberger is an RFA and he'll obviously be getting a hefty raise..

Totally agree, Holmgren has given ridiculous contracts, for ridiculous lengths and/or amounts... What has Carter done to deserve 5M outside of being on a team that overpays all that they see? What will they do if in two years they realize it's not clicking anymore? I absolutely hated the Richards contract, and now I hate that Carter deal.

Ding ding ding! Holmgren is painting himself in a corner. If the chemistry stops working one year, they are scrooged.

I think this just bumped him from 2.5 to 3 per year, 3 years.

Jason Smith is a UFA, and by NHLnumbers.com, that would put them at near 53M$ this season with alot of holes on D this nad next season (3 UFA+1RFA this season) with Lupul/Upshall RFA. SHould be interesting, ope the CAP does notgo down.

Thanks... Huge money per year for Carter... What is he going to make in his next contract? 7M$/year? I really have difficulties seeing anybody signing or re-signing with the Flyers right now or in the future who will make more than Mike Richards.

You hope for the cap not to go down or not to go up?

Plus they are now up against the cap and still need 2-3 forwards and 2-3 d-men...without Umburger and Smith.

I think A.Kost would sign for 4 years at 15-16...that would be good for both sides.

A little too soon to be giving him that kind of bread, IMO.

3 mil/year (max.) is what I would have given him...

This is ridiculous.

--------------------- ------------------------ -------------------------

$8 - $9 mil / 3 years for A.Kostitsyn is more than fair, imo.
No, he should be signed to a 6 or 7 year deal worth 5 million per season.

So a 30 mil or 35 mil dollar contract over 6 or 7 years. In that time he will surely be dominating the NHL. Just watch.

How about 3,5 mil/year
FOR
4 years?

Anyways...Gainey probably wouldn't do more than 2-3 years, no?

4-5 year contracts...I'd give it to Komisarek and Higgins (Higgs cannot be that expensive right now so lock him up for 4 years+, no? plus, I read/heard that Higgs has repeatedly said that he is making lots and lots of money already...he doesn't sound greedy...but what do I know?!!).

Remember, we have to sign Komisarek, Higgins, Pleks...

And we also have to think in the near future for guys like Price and Sergei Kosts 'cause I have a feeling that they will command/deserve large amounts of money when they reach RFA status...

Streit (imo) is as good as gone...we have to save the money for others I just mentioned above (+a UFA like for examples Rolston, Sundin, Jay Pandolfo, etc...).

EDIT: plus...we have to lock up Kovalev and Koivu for another 2 years (unless one of 'em is used as trade bait?).

True, but it saves money in the longterm.

Minnesota really had him at a basement/bargain price.

I can't believe Carter is going to make 5 mil (already), and...

Rolston has only been making 2.432 mil/year .
What the $%&* !!

Rolston is one of the most underrated/underpaid players out there.

I'll make you a bet he'll be looking for 4-5 mil/year...NOW.
Jeff Carter can still be traded easily with that price. He is also going to be a 80 point player very soon. Bargain deal.

If contracts are based on both what you have achieved and what is expected from you in the near future, I can't see AK getting much more (per year) than what they gave Ryder coming off of a couple of 30 goal campaigns.

Of course, we all know that AK is a higher calibre player than Ryder, but you don't get a contract as an RFA based on the player you're expected to be at 30 years old/at your peak... atleast you shouldn't.
