OT: Blasphemy in the East: Sundin may sign in MTL

Who woulda thunk it: Mats Sundin negotiating a deal with Montreal for July 1. Wonder what happens if he signs and returns to play the Leafs at the ACC?

That would hilarious if that happened. I would almost like to see it just to see the Leafs fans freak out.

Hey, maybe one day Jarome may want to come North to play at home?

I believe it was the Wild GM who said it last year that more Smyth situations would happen soon, well he wasn't kidding, this would be a massive kick in the pants for Leafs fans.

And for the quote above, I believe the Kobe Bryant response would happen:

Quote:
"Whine about it tonight. A lot of wine ... a lot of beer, a couple of shots — maybe like 20 of them. Digest it, get back to work tomorrow. Nothing you can do,"

Why would the Habs want Sundin anyways?

More scandalous could be only Smyth signing with the Flames last summer.
I am not a big Leafs' fan, but if that happens, I will lose a great deal of respect for Sundin.

That would be a slap in the face to many Leafs fans who have idolized him over the years.

I would say the same if Iginla would sign with the Oilers.

i would love it if iginla signed with the oilers. quick! give him ideas. sundin would be the man if he did this. that's how you stick to management if they don't want to resign you

If Sundin wants to win so badly, why not go to Detroit, who would happily give him a big one year contract to play next season. He would be an excellent 2nd line center, to play with Franzen and Samuelsson.

Signing with the Habs would not only be treason, it would be stupid. You're not going to win a Cup in Montreal anytime soon.

Just a hunch, but could be the perrenial point per game average he has put up in his 17 year career and no signs of slowing down. If I could add a guaranteed 75 points and the 70 + games played I would be interested.

Didn't you hear?

Koivu's heading off to the Sens, to replace Alfredsson who'll no doubt find a new home in Toronto...thus transforming eastern Canada into Bizarro World.

I've heard speculation about this for some time. Sundin wants to stay out East, with TOR (obviously), MTL, OTT, and maybe DET being the most interested parties. As for what this would do to Sundin's rep, I'm sure it would hurt it quite a bit, especially to those Leaf fans who deluded themselves into thinking Sundin was taking a hometown discount when he signed for 5.5M last year or the ones who believed he was going to "take one for the team" by waiving his NTC last year.

I've heard numerous times that Sundin does not want to play in the USA because of land and investments he has in Canada. Playing in the USa would have an effect on them somehow.

The best quote was from "The Greatest Game Ever Played" where the question was asked,

I'd laugh my ass off if he signed there.

I don't see how it's treason. It's not selling nuclear secrets to Iran. He'd be changing uniforms. He owes T.O. nothing. If anything, signing with MTL would be a big "up yours" to the cleft-lipped dunderheads at MLSE for squandering Sundin's best years by icing crap teams. But treason?

Treason might be an unfortunate term, but I think it is fair to say that Sundin's move to MTL would alienate a large number of Leafs' fans. And honestly can you blame them?
