From Sportsnet.ca, Toronto acquire winger Jamal Mayers from St. Louis for a 3rd round pick...anyone want to guess whose? Well, it's 70th overall so I'm not sure if it was the one we sent them or their own. But still.

The Flyers signed Jeff Carter to a 3 year deal today for "no less than 15 million". Boy does that Horton deal look great now!

Nashville signed Ellis and traded Mason to the Blues for a 4th round pick.

I know Pred fans thought Mason would be able to take over Vokouns spot but it appears he struggled last year and Ellis came in and took the job.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Panthers are expected to trade center Olli Jokinen today.

The Panthers have been trying to acquire a first-round pick in this year's draft, which begins tonight at 7pm ET, and the paper suggests the team will likely receive one as part of a package for Jokinen.

General Manager Jacques Martin has said repeatedly that he'd like to move up into the first round of what's touted as a talented draft. It's probable that will happen.

A number of teams are interested in Jokinen, including the Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames.


The Sun-Sentinel suggests the Panthers could move Jokinen to Calgary for winger Alex Tanguay and the 17th overall pick.

Various reports suggest the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers have also asked about Jokinen's availability. Sources tell TFP more than a dozen teams have serious interest in Jokinen.

The dealings at the NHL Entry draft have kicked off in a big way as the Calgary Flames appear to have the jump on the competition.

The Flames have acquired forward Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings as part of a three way trade.

Calgary sends their first round selection (17th overall) to the Kings who then ship that pick and the 28th overall selection to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for the Ducks' 12th overall draft pick.

The Flames are also on the verge of sending forward Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens for 25th overall pick. The deal has yet to be finalized however as the trade call must still go through.

A Ste-Justine, Quebec native, Tanguay is coming off a disappointing season that saw him score only 18 goals and pick up 40 assists in 81 games while hearing his name mentioned almost constantly in trade rumours.

Tanguay was acquired by the Flames on draft day in 2006 from the Colorado Avalanche for defenceman Jordan Leopold.

He enjoyed his first year in Calgary, where he scored 81 points in 81 games. In 609 career games, Tanguay has 177 goals and 362 assists. He helped capture the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in the 2000-01 season.

Tanguay has one year left on his current contract at $5.25 million.
