its funny/pathetic that lowe has talked and talked and talked about needing a top-flight forward on this team..... and he has talked and talked and talked about how we have enough bodies to do a 3 for 1 trade.... so, tell me what im missing here? florida just traded a star player in a 3 for 1 trade, an offer that the oilers could have *easily* matched btw

another glaring example of lowes incompetance

Let's not overstate things here - Ballard is a very good young defenceman and he arguably has more value than a guy like Gilbert. I think Phoenix gets a good deal here but Ballard is a very good player.

Actually it's more like Florida once again gives up a star player for spare parts.

Argh. Lowe should've moved on this.

I think you can make an argument that Edmonton would have to offer Gilbert, Grebeshkov and a 2nd they don't have to match or beat that deal. I'm guessing Lowe said no to that.

I agree about stoll, smid and pick. It is cheaper an more talent. WHat is lowe gonna do with 29000 players on a 23 man team?

What a joke

I don't think Jokinen makes us much better (if we got him). He's a poor ES player. We need to add the RIGHT players.

We need a RW who can destroy at ES.

Ok, it's a bit of an overstatement. But tell me that if a poster had put this out as a trade proposal he wouldn't have been roasted by everyone else.

Why are people surprised Lowe wasn't in on this. He's all but said they are going to stand pat has he not?

C'mon, Jokinen + Hemsky + Horcoff + Gagner + Nilsson + Cogs + Penner somehow isn't good enough?

That would've been more talent upfront than we've had since the 1990 Cup squad.

We already have Hemsky and Nilsson at RW anyway.

A similar deal the Oilers would have had to offer. Gilbert+Staios+2nd we don't have.

That's what I'm wondering as well. Outside of one comment where he said he wouldn't mind trading three players for one (what GM wouldn't?), he has been pretty adamant that he isn't going to be doing anything big this weekend. Looking at Edmonton's roster, it actually makes sense to stand pat and possibly bring in a veteran defenceman later via free agency.

To be fair unlike last year when he promised the world. This year he said he would like to do that. He then said it would be a hard thing to do to convince a team to do that 3 for 1 type thing. He said it was also very likely that not much happens and they stand pat.

To be honest I have been operating with the expectation that only a couple of very small things may go down. Last year I had my hopes up and got brutally disappointed. But I do not think Lowe made any guarantee's this year unlike last off-season.

After Hemsky... who is left? Pisani? The kids aren't naturally wingers...

On the LW we have Penner, Torres, Moreau, Glencross, and Cogs/Nilsson.

QUALITY FOR QUANTITY DEAL!

Know thats Pronger x2, Richards, Thornton, Luongo
Lowe has some explaining too do. You have 8 NHL ready d-man on your roster. Make a friggin move already!

I don't if he's the best fit for PHX because Doan would need more of a playmaker but adding a 6'2 center does help in that conference.

That would be nice, but not great at ES at all... and that's our achille's heel.

Has anyone given any thought that Jokinen may have asked not to be traded to certain teams. Maybe he does not even want to live in the cold north anywhere after being in Florida?
