Grebs, Staios, 1st rounder for Jokinen.

Would you do it?

The whole ES nonsense is overstated. We were supposed to be horrible ES this past year and it didn't work out like that at all.

Cogliano Gagner Nilsson should be a terrible ES line and a big time liability too.

You can't teach talent or goal scoring.

POOR EV, his numbers were better then Horcoff when factoring in all that quality of competition c**p.

Ballard is going to be a good one and Boynton is only 29. Phoenix got the best player but Florida didn't get hosed.

I agree. But then again, I like Boynton. Think he's a real solid top 4 player. Florida gets 2 top 4 d-men, one with top pairing upside, and a decent pick.

That was my point however badly I made it. Florida has a "D"

If Jovo can't stay healthy...the Yotes will hate this trade. Jokinen doesn't make ANYONE a better team. Ever.

Phoenix couldn't dump Boynton for nothing last year. Ballard is good, but I don't think he is living up to the hype he has gotten in the last couple of years.

Jokinen is a bonafide star.

I think Phoenix wins quite easily and they niw have a pretty formidable and Big! top six.

How is Jokinen a bona fide star?

Yeah Jokinen + Turris in the mix next year.

I think Phoenix will sign someone like Brad Stuart to fill out their blueline.

Watch. If you compare their top 6 to the Oilers it's scary.

36, 26, 38, 39, 34 goals in the last 5 seasons and as many as 91 points on a perenial bottom feeder is pretty darn good to me. Superstar? Maybe not, but definitely a bonafide star.

We weren't good. Horcoff was the only player to destroy the opposition at ES. You can't rely on the PP to win all games (although Montreal seems to win that way).

I understand the kids are bleeding GA at ES because they are young + small. Eventually we need players like Pisani with higher-skill + speed - aka Horcoffs. Can't we clone Horcoff?

There's a premium on D-men this summer. Stuart is likely staying with the Wings or commanding $4M to 4.5M/yr.

Compare Jokinen to the top line guys he is now going to play against. Do you still think its worth giving up 2 steady D men to get a player with ZERO playoff experience?

Stuart's wife has a hard on for warm weather/California, and Phoenix is relatively close (ask Gretz).

Phoenix has the cap room to offer him $4.5 mill anyway.

Yes. People said the same garbage about Luongo. Florida is a joke of a franchise.

Phoenix will be in the playoffs next year, Florida will not (again).

Doan and Mueller handled the top opposition last year and did just fine. Gretzky now has a ton of options.

Carolina won with depth up front. Jokinen, plus our current crop of players up front would've given us tons of forward depth. I would've done Grebs + Staios + 1st round pick--very comparable to the actual trade.

I see it this way:

Ballard >> Grebs
Staios >> Boynton
1st rounder >> 2nd rounder

Our offer probably would've won out.

They are a budget team not a cap team.

I still think the supply of D-men this summer is very small so players can pick and choose. Phoenix can't be high on Stuart's list.
