Oiler News ~ June 20th

Here's today's round-up...buddies. Terrance and Phillip meets Guy Ledouche. That last thread took on a life of its own. Thanks JJ.

Lowe may stand pat (The Journal) Wasn't Burke who said the worst day GM's can make moves is Draft Day?

TSN's Mackenzie says Pitkanen and Stoll have the potential of being moved. Shocking.

TSN spotlight on what the Oiler's and godless Flames at the draft.

An interview with Jarret Stoll, mostly non hockey. Best question: What's your favorite Rod Stewart song? Nice.

So Payne are you now going to do this thread and take it over for me.

I have no problem with it but if you want to take it over then I don't have to wake up early on weekends.

Gotta love the team.

Somehow they took that same article about the 22 offers and are now saying Lowe has 22 offers to move up in the draft??

Hmm....that's not what I read.

Sorry HA101... I was just putting it up if I noticed it wasn't there. I do the Google News Oiler search everyday anyway so I figured I'd save someone some time. My schedule is a bit nuts so I can't commit to anything daily but I'll help out when I can. I`d hate to post a thread 10 seconds before you post yours though.

I started to read that article earlier today, saw the first "question" of the "interview" was "which hockey players would round out your fantasy foursome" and closed the page. I'm sure the rest of it was just as hard-hitting journalism.

I think the article was supposed to be a little humourous. You should try it sometime.

I thought the Stoll article was great. A nice break from all the trade rumours, and business.

But if it's the worst day GMs can make moves then it's obviously also the best day GMs can make moves because there's two sides to every deal.

The thing is, those kinds of fluff pieces are all too common, and used as a pure substitute for actual journalism these days. Barely above high school level newspaper stuff. I guess it bores me. If I want to read something funny, I go to Onion, or Fark comment threads.

The Stoll interview was definitely not hard journalism or anything, but it was a nice break for me to get just a little different look at a player, get a bit of a feel for their personality & such. Not such a bad thing.

How long before Eklund mis-reads this post and reports...

Lowe to move up 22 spots in draft after Feaster offers first overall. (e4)

Well, I guess I've just been getting more and more cynical about the state of the media over the last few years.

Bill Maher would approve, though.

Its always a good day for the GM making a deal with the Islanders.

No worries.

I will check to see if you have posted it.

Having two people working on this is better than one.

"Actual journalism"? You mean some pumped up drama spin?

Sorry, I would rather read the fluff.

(Call me a cynic, but there's an agenda behind everything you read in the papers.)

Actual journalism, like stuff they do on Marketplace, or 60 Minutes, or any show where they reveal BS and challenge the BSers to explain their BS. BS.

Agenda? I guess it depends on how you mean. If you mean like conspiracy theories, then I'd not call you a cynic, but a paranoiac.

You have 3 choices-
1) reading an off piece like that
2) reading hockeybuzz.com
3)slashing your wrists with a plastic butterknife.

I'd take #1, but if it wasnt available I'd take #3

I'll take #4, none of the above.
