though i'm sure they're going the BPA route instead of actively stock piling d-men, but i like it. building through the goal out, we'll hopefully get that scoring forward soon enough...

Rangers have a genuine NEED for a big time heavy hitting defenseman. they went and drafted a player whom we already have a better version of in our system. Im not very happy.

I like D.Z. a lot, but I'd of rather had Tedenby. Oh well.

Erik? Or was that spelled with a K? Because Erik was taken a few picks up.

He's the kid I wanted...I think he's the BPA, and I'm not surprised the Rangers took a D-man from the OHL. The kid was being talked about at the start of the year on a level with the big 4...frankly, I think he's a steal at #20.

i like the pick.

the bigger need is forward but this 1st round is loaded on d.

reminds me of 2003...only this time it seems we are on the good side of this. time will tell.

and actually, based on recent memory, i actually prefer the team to draft a forward in the later rounds where it seems they are more comfortable doing it. especially in this kind of d-heavy draft.

I think Del Zotta has more of a chance to be an impact player at least, and I if things work out, the Rangers could have a very dynamic defense in 3-4 years. Del Zotta and Sanguinetti providing a strong one-two punch, Staal being the top guy logging huge minutes and contributing all over, guys like Tyutin, Girardi, and Sauer providing solid physical defense with puck moving skills.

If it all works out, it could be nice at least

That's a short term problem. Any forward we draft at this point won't be ready for at least a year if not 2 or 3.

You don't draft for need, it's simple. See Jessiman.

Eh I'm content with the pick, I just don't feel the need for 2 purely offensive Dmen. I would have been happier with Carlson or Tedenby but I think Del Zotto is going to turn out great.

sounds very similar to sanguinetti two years ago; highly ranked offensive defensemen with defense questions falls to the rangers in the early twenties.

Do you think that means Sather is trying to sign orpik?

Agreed. Del Zotto is a strong prospect for our system, I had a feeling he was going to be ours for the past few days.

Good pick for us, I'm happy enough.

Let's go get Staal in the second round.

It's also a long term problem because they don't have any prospects except chere who look like being legit top-6 wingers.

Yep, agreed 100%. Drafting for need is why we had Jessiman instead of Parise

Now go get some quality forwards in round two and three - now, I'm content to take Staal or Petrov in round two, and love getting Paquette in round three.

This guy is a cowboy on defense. Thinks offense before defense. But in our system that's not so bad considering he'll probably be paired with a very steady guy on d like Staal, Sauer, Tyutin or Girardi. So in a way we need someone who is a DIVA like that. We need a guy that can put up points. And at the very least you know Schonfeld will not let him be promoted from Hartford when he gets there until he learns not to be a liability on defense. Not that he is. I like this. With him and Sanguinetti if he too pans out were gonna have one hell of a power play.

That was mentioned already in a thread on the first page "Sather will not negotiate".

He is attempting to make pitches for Brooks Orpik and such.
