Inconsistent, but didn't get too much of a shot this year. He was awesome (for him) in the playoffs. if you liked what you saw of him then, thats probably his top end.

Man, I'm not really crazy about Eminger. He was a highly regard 1st rounder in 2002 so maybe he can rediscover his game in Philly. He has all the skills but he plays a tentative game. He thinks too much out there. But he was better in the playoffs.

Good luck!

I love this trade, and I love the pick. Carlson is a great player. I had him ranked #17. I'm suprised he lasted this long. Mcphee knows what he's doing. Gustafsson, and Carlson, and we have 2 2nd round picks tomorrow.

Anyone think Tikhonov will play in the NHL this year? he's got a head start on development versus the other guys, since he was passed over in two drafts before this.

along with the Hunter info, the Caps also had some picks playing for Indiana (Bruneteau before he was traded and Gwidt) in the USHL so possible the pro scouts saw him play a few times, along with the amateur scouts

I happened to be reading this about Carlson when they made the pick

http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2...ly_a_high.html

Is anyone actually surprised that they moved Eminger, regardless of his playoff performance?

agree about the Varlamov comments being odd, in particular because it doesn't sound like the comments are based on some new info., but rather back to the super series and WJC stuff

I like Eminger a decent bit, I just think he needs a change of location. Maybe Philly's the place to do it, but I'm not certain it is. Fans will rip him first bonehead mistake or two he makes and he will be run out of town.

He has a decent bit of talent, but I think at this point a #4 or 5 is about what you're looking at. He plays more phyiscal now, but won't help you on the PP and doesn't really shoot well at all. He still skates decently well and can move it well, but he needs a complete confidence workover. If Smith is there, maybe he can mentor the guy, because he needs a boost.

I owe Mcphee some praise. Can anyone really argue that he didn't just maximize Eminger's current trade value? Picking up another late first for him, all things considered, is pretty impressive.

Carlson seems intriguing. It's nice to have a guy of his style in the system - I'm about as clueless on Carlson as eveyone is about Anton so once again - GMGM gets my blind faith on this pick until proven wrong.

From DC's draft guide on Carlson. Should make people here smile.

he says he tries to play like Scott Stevens.

Gotta admit...I didn't think Eminger had that much value either.

I agree about maximizing Emi's value. People were clamoring for a 4th rounder for him.

well... the Carlson pick at least quiets people down a bit if they blew the other pick.

They got two guys in the latter half of a pretty deep draft, so that's a decent chance that at least one does something of note.

We should have the ammo to trade up to early 2nd if we want. Sit back tonight and evaluate the day.

Come in tomorrow ready to fire.

Congrats on the Carlson pick-up. Here's what his ex-Jr coach told me about him (I've posted it before, but I love the story). I asked him if Carlson ever dropped the gloves when he coached him.

Quote:
when I took him to Indy as a 16 yr old he scrapped the tough guy on the last shift of the sunday all star game and pounded him into the ice literally with the side of his hand on the top of the guys head which lead the staff to refer to him as the baby dinasour.
I should be doing an interview with him him later in the summer. Hopefully.

Yeah...Im good.

Not sold on Anton...but the fact that Mafki moved up two times and got who they wanted works for me (and still have two picks in the 2nd).

Now go meet with the agent at the hotel bar and Sign Huet!
