I stand by my initial impression of Hanzal.
The acquisition of Bryzgalov negated the Coyotes suckage last season. They weren't great but they didn't suck when they were working to get a playoff spot.

Ballard plays over 20 mins a night and is only one year older than Gilbert. He also played for Team USA at the World's. He's a good player.

Obviously the Panthers were looking for defense. There's no doubt that any deal with the Oilers would've involved Gilbert or Pitkanen plus another d-man like Smid or Greene.

I think it may have been an opportunity lost. Unless you think that Gilbert or Pitkanen is going to become a true #1 d-man.

Actually they were significantly better than the Oilers in GA/G last year:

http://www.nhl.com/nhlstats/app?fetc...ewName=summary

The had a problem scoring goals. Jokinen, Turris, an improving Mueller, Porter and Kolarik should solve that pretty quickly.

All they need is couple of veteran defensemen.

Hanzal will likely be on the third line. Big deal.

Correct. They had more vet D-men (very few rookies/youngsters) than us by far. Now two are gone.

Right after the trade deadline (when their vets slumped).

Good Lord! Lowe could certainly have landed Jokinen if that was all it was going to take.

We missed out on a good one.

Using that logic, 29 teams could have had Chris Pronger. 28 said NO.

Or Luongo.

I dunno, if I was a GM ... yikes ... I'd have Florida on speed dial to grab Nathan Horton for a bag of popcorn in two years time.

This team has given up their best player *twice* (a 40 goal no.1 center and a Vezina-winning goalie) in two summers time for basically two no.2 d-men and some spare change.

Yeah and I cant imagine Gretz having any trouble to sell his team to a UFA vet. Like what hockey player honestly wouldnt want to play for the man

Nope...that's just an Oiler homer putting down a player who would be a huge third line centre for the Oilers.

Well living in Phoenix in the winter is tough sledding. The golf courses are such a distraction.

Considering Jokinen wanted out, Florida actually did okay...those are two decent defensemen.

But if the Coyotes can land a couple of decent shutdown 'D' they'll be a force. Their forward depth is just sick.
