Jagr in Free Agency

Now this idea came to me a little earlier and I think someone mentioned it. Jagr supposedly wants a 2 year deal, NY only wants one. Martin loves giving out 2 year deals. We desperately need offense on the first line and we also need someone who can draw people to the rink and be the face of a marketing campaign, since our semi-decent face of the franchise was Olli.

My proposal...sign Jaromir Jagr to a two year deal. Market the game to the casual fans. Nearly everyone knows who Jagr is. Olesz was compared to him, Frolik idolizes him. He could definitely teach the younger guys about using your strength and skill to shield the puck. Also, he's growing sick of the spotlight in NY probably, and in South FLA he can live a great lifestyle and not be the focus of the town, just slip under the radar. All the retiring players love FLA, why not Jags?

On top of all else, he's won everythign he could possibly win, already won the cup a few times, so it's not like he's trying to find a contender to get one last shot at the cup. If we ponied up some money on a 2 year deal that wasnt outrageous, what do you say?

I would give my left nut for a two-year jagr deal that isn't over 6 million.

Jagr would give this team the faces. Ollie gone, we need some star to offense.

Jagr will never sign here unless he got league maximum, and even then he may not.

What makes you think you know what he is thinking?

Why would he sign with a team that isn't a contender this late in his career? There are rumblings that he may just go back to Europe to finish out his career.

2 years of Jagr could be a good idea. Hopefully Mats Sundin doesn't sign with the Habs and we add both of 'em. Problem solved, Cup won.

like one has mentioned he has already won a cup, maybe its not in his best interest to win another, he may just want to get a final paycheck and play without the spotlight.

That does fancy some players. Even elite ones.

Exactly, look at my points. He's already made his millions, won cups, titles, etc...

He's probably not lookin to get ripped by the media as eventually, he'll start to decline, but just having him around guys like Frolik would probably be good, even though there are some reports about his attitude issues in the past. I think he's over that though. If we can give him a good salary, nothing insane, but maybe 6 million, then he could enjoy an awesome lifestyle living in South FLA and could slip out of the spotlight. People would love him on the Panthers. Even if Jokinen could have arguably been a better player, all the casual fans in South Fla would see Jagr and be like "wow Panthers have him, he's so good, etc...." and they'd think we had a superstar for them to come see. Who the Hell are people going to want to come watch now? Bouwmeester? Psh yeah righttt. Vokoun, w/e, he's goalie. People like scoring and winning. If we're not winning, they want excitement at least, and Jagr would be on par with the attraction of Bure when he was here from the name alone.

If there is one player that might be able to convince him to come play here, maybe Vokoun? I don't know if he would fit here, and with our luck he would get a freak injury that sidelines him long-term.

I don't know about Jagr and Hossa. But I think we could have a good shot at second tier guys like Ryder, Huselius, Malone, and Vrbata. We're thin at forward so we may have to gamble on something from the outside.

We already know what Stumpy and Pelts can bring so I wouldn't mind giving those other guys a shot instead. I'd also like Kilger to decide that he wants to play and see what he can offer.

Huselius back to FLA isn't happening.........ever IMO.

He played under Martin and Martin's the GM. I doubt Martin, who has seen him in the locker room and wanted him gone (with Keenan) would sign him, and I doubt he'd have an interest. Guys like Ryder, Malone, and Vrbata though probably would love to come here since they're basically handed first line roles. It's like "oh cool, where do I want to go sign to get first line time?" Florida!" If not first line, they'll be top 6, with the Second (panther 1st) line of BWH.

I'd love Huselius back personally, but I can't see it happening.

I could see Malone. Martin stated that his second priority behind a puck moving d-man was a gritty role player type that would crash the net.

No way do I want Jagr here. Hes old, he has no heart or emotion anymore. Thats even been called out a few times during the past year. We desperately need offense, but anyone but Jagr. I will literally be sick to my stomach if we get Jagr, but I dont think that would happen anyway.

Jagr is the last thing we need here. Another floater who has none leadership qualities

Brian Rolston!

Agreed and agreed.

Rolston is a much better option at this stage of the game and with the direction we're heading.

Jagr would cost too much. JM won't pony up that much on a forward. It will be a second tier player. Now that Ollie is gone I think it might be a high second tier player. Not low like Ryder. I think someone like Naslund, Morrison or Rolston.

Jagr won't come here and we don't sign big names.

Malone is OVERRATED because he played with Crosby.

Rolston would be nice, but man we are screwed for offense. From bad to worse next year.

Why would any big name or quality free agent volutarily come to this train wreck of a franchise? It has never happened and it definitely won't now.
