What about the Oilers? They have a new owner who is on record saying he wants to spend to the Cap every year. This would make a real big splash for the new Owner of the Oilers.

The Oilers would be a contender in a couple years if they added a guy like Hossa, IMO.

I would have been shocked if he didn't test the market

Hossa has control

My feeling is this is going to happen ...

Hossa signs with the Rangers for $9 million per on July 1st.

Jagr is then coaxed by Lemieux to accept a 1 year deal from Pittsburgh as a chance to end things where they started and maybe go out with a Cup.

LOL at most of the Pens Fans for the past 2 months. "HOssa will take less 2 play with Crosby!!!!1!!!1" Bottom line is money talks and Hossa is the best on the market the offseason. Some of you Pens fans are still in denial.

and I agree, he is going to Boston. Chara will do for Boston what Biron did for Philly.

I will be fine with it if he goes, as 23 million dollars in 7 forwards is not a good thing, but I still think he is coming back to Pittsburgh.

Columbus can offer him the max ($11 million), if necessary. They have around $20 million to spend this summer and will probably throw the moon at Campbell as well.

I believe that translates in English to -
"We probably aren't the highest offer, and he's going to July 1st to make sure."

but what I really loved was the line about-
he knows the risks, and so do we???? what risk does Hossa have??? The risk of getting more money....gimme a break

At the moment, Hossa is saying that Pittsburgh is his #1 choice but he wants to see what's out there. He may well leave but the door is far from closed. He also has said he wants to play for a good team. What makes you think he'd play for Boston? Montreal would be more likely.

very true, in the end i think he goes back to Pitt, but its funny how greedy some people can be. Pitt gave up plenty to bring him in, he got a chance to make a real cup run, and hes still concerned about a few more bucks??

To me the door is closed for Hossa to return to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh offered Hossa what they could and he rejected it. It was a substantial offer, but Pittsburgh is not in any position to up the offer and give Hossa the world like some can.

The only way I can see Hossa return is if he is low balled by the 15 or so teams that could out bid Pittsburgh.

In an ideal world winning > money, but money talks.

Essentially you're saying teams that make the playoffs are not good teams.

Not really him declining the offer, so much as saying that he'll think about it and see what else is out there on July 1st.

If he goes, I won't be too upset. I didn't really expect that the Pens would be able to keep him or Malone really. I figured they'd both want too much.

I think a 'good' team means anywhere but Atlanta. Their situation there with the AHL/NHL split and their oft-incompetent management is absolutely rough.

What the hell does Hossa want to be sure of??? He is sadly mistaken if he thinks the pens will offer him more. I hope Shero stands firm on his offer...I am sure he is going for the cash, but it is likely that he will end up with an inferior team (spare me the "there are other teams as good as the pens..maybe so, the pens have the brightest future). So much for playing for a winner.

Thats what people said with Briere last year. Guess what, he got paid AND he is on a cup contender.

Boston will be up there if they add Hossa to the mix. Let's not forget they pushed Montreal(who you suggest is far superior) to a game 7.

What will it take for Pens fans to realize he is not coming back? You guys are in serious denial.

YES the team that makes the highest offer gets the player but what GM in his right mind would want to always be the highest bidder for talent? If any team wants him bad enough to pay him 9 million plus then good riddance.

Thats what most outside believe. Only the Pens fans believe otherwise.
If a deal is there, get it done....but nooooooo, "he's gonna go to July 1 just to make sure"

That tells me hes almost good as gone. It's gonna get really interesting since Malone appears pissed at the Pens for lowballing him in teh first place for the sake of Hossa. Now, potentially, the Pens could lose BOTH

We'll see what happens, but I translate it to this:

"I want to see if I can get 8-9 million before I sign with the Pens in the 7.5ish range."

Which he probably will, and he'll be gone. Oh well, the Pens are still a good team without him, will probably be able to afford to keep some guys that they wouldn't next summer if they don't sign him, and they still have plenty of cap space this year for UFA signings.

I wouldn't mind seeing them throw an offer sheet out.

If we get Sundin, we can't sign Hossa unless we trade Koivu.

(around 51 M$ without Brisebois and with Sundin(7) and Tanguay).

No surprise here. Hossa's always been about the money ever since his last contract with Ottawa. I'm loving that Atlanta fans are instantly vindicated with all their "Hossa will test Free Agency" posts that Penguin fans shot down. My money's on Hossa going to Boston; probably for something around Crosby's deal (8.7M/season).
