Hossa Likely gondie from Pitts

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241327&l...=topStory_main

Makes some sense why Sather would not sign Jagr, Avery and the crew until after July 1

I say go for it..............Hossa replacing Jagr makes a whole lot of sense

From their they can go with Gomez #1 C with Hossa on the wing, play Drury 2nd and Dubinsky 3rd...........

I would also get the Avery deal done and play him on the Dubinsky line

We will see

Rangers wont sign him. i just dont see him being a guy Sather would give 8-9 million bucks a year to when we are already cap screwed.

maybe if we didnt have drury OR gomez, but since we have both, it aint gonna happen.

What's the difference if Jagr will get 5 .........So Hossa gets 7............just 2 million more for a guy that will anchor the first line for yrs to come

Yeah, if we lose Jagr and company, I can definitely see Hossa hitting Broadway... He will probably command no less than 7.5...

jagr can get 5, with 2 of it deferred. all of hossas will count. its a difference of 4 million then. thats a pretty big difference.

that 4 million can buy you brooks orpik.

Jagr + Orpik > Hossa + Potter

Does he want to be in NY?

I mean his brother FAILED here. Don't you think that would have something to do with his decision?

If my brother sucked and i went to the team that traded him away and all the fans would do would compare him to me, i would feel slightly uncomfortable about that situation - unless of course Marcel has given him his blessing and recommendation to go to the Rangers.

I dont think he'll be a Ranger - too costly as well - i agree with inferno.

Tick Tock, we'll see soon

I understand the view point of signing others and spending cash elsewhere BUT I think Sather is up to something big

Problem with this line of thinking is players like Hossa don't often hit the UFA market.

The Rangers might get one more year out of Jagr ... and then what?

If you're spending that much on your center positions you need to have at least one elite winger for them to play with long term, not just for one year.

That's my thinking..............most teams have a star on offense that other teams are scared to face.................I do not look at Gomez and Drury like that...........I look at them as great 2 way players but not a true sniper like a Jagr or Hossa

Jagr is getting old so if they can get him they should spend the money to get Hossa now...............why wait next yr for Gaborik or Kovalchuk,,,,,,,,,,they are the same player

just curious... the pens offered him a little over 7 mil over 7 seasons... thats really good money to play on a line with crosby... what makes you think he'll sign for 7.5 with new york? i just dont see him signing anywhere for less than 8-9 mil

agreed. i think itll take 7 years @ 8.5 to get him with a full NMC.

Rangers cant afford that.

If my brother sucked, I may very well be inclined to go to the team that gave him oppurtunity after oppurtunity. I'd bet that Marcel has pretty good things to say about the organization.

Hossa turned down close to 7.5M from Pitts and that's with a slight discount, I'm sure. He'll get around 8-8.5 on the open market. No thanks!

On a $56-$57 million dollar cap with Jagr and probably Straka gone and Shannahan retiring, the Rangers can definitely afford that.

Hossa is a legit 1st line player but I don't look at him as an elite player. The Rangers cannot afford to put out another huge long term contract for anything less than an elite player. Even after last years playoffs I'm not convinced that Hossa is a big game player. Playing with Crosby certainly doesn't hurt.

You sign Hossa at 8.5 that brings the cap number to 44. Leaving 12 million bucks to fill in 8 spots.

Jagrs still the better signing for 2 years than Hossa for 5-7 imo

There are other guys like Hossa who be available in the coming years.

It will cost less $ and less years to commit = Flexibility for the future.

Plus to me all money and years aside, Jaromir Jagr still > Hossa

We'll see about that, Orpik is talking to Pitts again now that they are likely not going to bring in Hossa

I doubt we get Redden, Since we drafted 2 PP QB's we dont need one for a 5 year contract for 6 mil

Inferno - I'm with you on this one. I was pretty bummed when we signed BOTH Gomer and Drury. I thought both the amount and the term of the deals were an extravagance that would come back to bite us in the A$$. One or teh other would have been great, not both. It was unecessary. Throw in the NMC and NTCs and we're in a corner.
'
I love what the "Genius" is doing with the money the Rangers have that he lamented when he was in EDM.

I'm not sure about that. Every off season since the lockout we've been busy come July 1st, I think we're due for a slow off season. I get the feeling Sather is doing a mini rebuild, not sure why thou. I can def. see us being small players in the market.
