No thanks, I wouldn't like earning a top 3 draft pick.

WEll I wouldnt mind only the top 2. With Hedman and Tavares, no need for a 3rd one.

It's not like RFAs have that much leverage. 5M for the Carey Price we have seen this year is way too much. At worst, I would go to arbitration. He wasn't even average in the play-off...

Depends how you look at it. Best goaltender in the playoffs during the first round, and the worst in the 2nd.

Your logic here is confusing. In comparing the Anaheim and Montreal situation, you are mentioning the positives for Anaheim and the negatives for Montreal. Who's to say Montreal can't sign UFAs to fill those 6 spots? In 08-09 Anaheim has roughly 27 million tied up in 13 players, including 7 players who haven't seen a game in the NHL besides Ryan Carter. The habs have 22.5 mil tied up in 12 players, including 7 players who haven't seen an NHL game.

Montreal all of the same opportunities to sign FAs, than any other team in the league does, including Anaheim. I just don't understand the logic in this entire thread. Stop pessimizing (new word, I call it, no challenge) and smile for once. The habs have one of the best situations in the league right now, coming off first place in the conference and getting better.

That's only one team, I don't see how the Habs are any worse off than any of the 29 other teams. With a rising cap and no real 'superstar' that's going to make Cros-Malkin numbers, and all of our young prospects coming up, plus the young talent on our team already, we will be fine. Gainey is a smart man, and will make good decisions. In fact, I'll go out on a limb here, and say with the salary cap structure and the talent (on the current roster and prospect wise) I would choose team Montreal over team Pittsburgh. A team with 3 superstars will not win in todays league, just compare bluelines and you'll see what I mean. Look at prospects, contracts, current players, Montreal might have the best blueline around for the future. Detroit's probably ahead, and Anaheim is for sure right now, but the Habs are lookin good. Real good.

*** is the problem???

Gainey said he makes exceptions for contract negociations (meaning, signing in the season if he has to). Negociations with Pleky are already started as we saw a couple of months ago. The same will probably be made with all core players (including Tanguay) except for the old ones like Kovalev and Koivu.

I can bet with anyone who fancies it, that of Akost, Skost, Higgins, Price, Pleky, Tanguay, Komisarek, Latendresse, none of them will be lost to the market, and will all stay with the Habs past 2010, unless one gets traded and in that case we won't lose any of them for nothing.

Panick button!!!! Where's the dogdamn panick button!?????

huh???

dubaya-Tee-F is now censored???? What the Phoque????

Doesn't matter he's on a rookie deal for the next two years anyway.... any extension potentially signed in the summer of 2009, wouldn't kick in till July 1st 2010 anyway....

By that point a two year deal with Sundin would expire.

Isn't Price going into his 3rd year? I would have thought that his stint in the AHL counted as a year.

No cause he was signed just prior to the playoffs; it doesn't count as a year.... His first official year under contract was this one.

I think that next year our priority will be Komisarek, even tought i realy like Saku Koivu it's possible that we dont sign him, only because of caproom problem, Tanguay could be resign but could be free too, Kovalev should be resigned, but could go too. We should make a choice wether Saku or Alex become our Mike Modano. Actualy saku at 3.5 and Kovy at 5 would permit to sign them for some more years.

But dont forget that the team could go without them (except Komisarek), because of our pool of young talent currently playing on the team, and those to come. Lats, Higgins, Kost bros., Paccioretty, Plekanec could be top 6 forward. Plus we got at least two other players who could be second forward, Maxwell and (possibly with a lot of luck) Grabovsky, plus our new addition Kristo in 3-4 years. So yeah this team can afford to loose our veterants and still be a threat, if we still keep one of them, we will be still Stanley cup contender (considering All the young top 6 will have more experience and will be peaking in their talent). We could go trough kind of a Sabre 2007-2008 kind of transition, but we would still be more solid than them.

Whatever we do that will happen, we will loose maybe a Higgins, Lats and a Plek in the next 4-5 years, but with our pool we will go through all this and still be a great team.

He's going hard at it.

But not All-in.

It's not a do or die. I see us, with the depth, pool, and appeal we now have to UFAs, as a contender for a long time.

Price will need to prove his worth, we did an error with the Theodore huge contract... Theo did prove his worth but sit on the contract after.

Yes, i do not want to see another Dark Age (15 years of losing) after next season.

If we are a little bit weaker in 2-3 seasons i am ok with it but no fire sale please.
