That said, maybe he asked for these things and maybe he didn't, does it matter? Why not ask for the moon? You never know when someone might give it to you...

Dave Nonis: Hey Mike, how's about Bertuzzi, Auld, and Allen for Luongo, Krajicek, and a pick?

Mike Keenan: Bertuzzi? You can stop there, I'm sold, I don't even care if your replacement goalie will be an embarrassment to puck stoppers.

Bryan Murray: So Mike, we've got these AMAZING guys, names of Kvasha and Parrish. I think maybe we could help you with your logjam in goal and take that awful Jokinen off your hands.

Mike Milbury: Please get rid of this Luongo fella. Done deal. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to see if we can't get Yashin and Dipietro signed for life. Mr. Snow keeps saying if I pull off a few more dumb moves that even he could wind up with my job. Ah Garth, always the joker.
man, who knew that when we got Louie and Olli we'd not make the playoffs their entire tenure?

lots of guys with better memories than me, so I will ask the question?

who was the last 25 year old #1 dman to be traded?

How many players are their teams #1 dman at the age of 25 right now?

That would probably only be Bouwmeester and Phanuef.

I gotta admit I don't watch many Florida games, but I have seen Olli Jokinen play for his national team many many times and everytime he has sucked, so I don't understand what makes him so great player in NHL? Asking Phaneuf for Jokinen is nuts. Jokinen ain't that great in my books.

Any idea why Jokinen sucks balls when he plays for his National Team? I have been very disappointed everytime I have seen him play for Finland.

He has done unbelievably well in NHL stats-wise.

Phaneuf isn't the number one dman on his team. He plays sheltered minutes.

where was the insult? the cost was too high... and Jokinen has never played a playoff game... why would you move a 2 time all-star defenseman and Norris runner up who has only 3 seasons in the league for a 10-15 #1 center who hasn't seen the playoffs? I wouldnt give that up for a guy never to see the playoffs... unless the guy had conn smythe caliber playoffs in the past I would even be insulted at the offer

I also think the Panthers took what they did because by the time Martin had realized his asking price was completely stupid guys like Tanguay had already been dealt

I would NOT trade Phaneuf for Jokinen if I am Sutter.

Florida, I empathize with you as an Oilers fan! Having your heart (Pronger) ripped from your body. It could be some rough sailing ahead. More if's and hopeful speculation about young players turning it up, than anything to bank on.

Probably shouldn't bother responding to this but what are you talking about?

He played about 5 more minutes per game than any other defenceman on the Flames roster. He played against top lines all season. He had 25 more points than the next Flames defenceman and he was a Norris candidate, all at 23.

Any chance you could clarify your comment?

I was wondering the same thing. I can't find any trace of an offer on the web or comments from a bonafide source saying the Oilers organization made that comment. I'd love to see a link to it.

I found the post regarding this:

Quote:
The Oilers VP of hockey operations Kevin Prendergast was interviewed late tonight.

He said they made an inquiry about Jokinen earlier in the day. He said the Panthers did not get back to them. But he thought they could have put together a better package than Phoenix did for Olli.
In retrospect, I'm sure many teams would say that they could have put together a better package.

Some info from Gillis:

Quote:
"We didn't think he was the player we wanted to fit in with our team," Gillis said. "The reports that we had were problematic for me and I don't really want to expand on it. We just didn't want to go in that direction."

Thanks. I couldn't find anything anywhere on it. Kind of odd that they wouldn't even get back to Edmonton to see what kind of deal could be made.

Maybe five? Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Keith, Enstrom and I'm really not sure about Weber... Who's better than Vlasic with Campbell likely gone ?
