Abid has Persian background IIRC

I thought he was white, then I quickly realized he was brown. That's why I thought it was a weird name at first

My point was that he was getting worked up over people not recognizing an East Indian name at first.

There really is no reason to. You can't expect everyone to know where any name comes from; hell I still don't know the distinction in names between all of those former Soviet states.

I went in search of Rai highlights and came across the Thunderbirds Video archives...
I've looked at a couple of the links...

http://www.seattlethunderbirds.com/m...a/allstate.php

---he's #9, and i watched it in Real Player.

on the Feb 25th week....
:50 he has a hit, and then a breakaway goal (separate plays)
1:45 goal
2:00 goal
2:25 goal
2:50 sweet assist

March 02, 2008
:48 goal
1:18 goal

anyways... just a little glimpse into him as a player.
I like the display of his speed and nose for the puck..
(he's only 6'0, but he's bigger than Thomas Hickey... his teammate (LA's pick last yr, #4)

I saw the Feb 25th highlight package and then came here to post... if anyone noticed any other impressive highlight package in the other weeks, please post em here... i don't wanna sift through all of em right now.

A long shot for the NHL right now, but he will definitely have the lower mainland pulling for him when he improves on his numbers next yr... i am anyway...

EDIT: Feb 18th...
:55 Very nice end to end rush goal off a faceoff.
1:47 goal
2:33 great move and GW assist (not 100% sure its #9, but looks like him)

Just heard on the team he'll definitely be at camp with the rest of the hopefuls this summer.

I can't exactly tell what you're trying to say here, but if you're saying Iginla is half-black and is hence "brown" because he has darker skin, I'm pretty sure LB 28 was refering to "Indo-Canadian".

Of course, if I'm wrong in all of this, just ignore this post

Im glad we drafted him. I hope he makes the team one day. It will be awesome.

Another awesome thing is if Vancouver Giants can make a trade for him. That would really sell tickets.

Hell yeah, they would start playing Punjabi music between plays. That would be insane. But seriously, if he makes the team that is awesome marketing to the Indian market.

Ah, I'd never heard "brown" used as a term to describe Indo-Canadians, only as a term for anyone with darker skin. I didn't grow up in very diverse towns...
