Thats not all that bad, paying 2m per over the market value. It could be much worse, we could be paying 3-4m per for a player that don't fit in.
losing two million off your cap per year is bad... look at Shanny's bonus of $1.5 which is dead weight... that's bad... so $2 mill of what is essentially dead weight is worse.

Overpaying by $2MM...

could be the difference between being able to sign a guy like, say, Pronger and ending up with Rozsival (not perfect math, but that's the concept).

I don't think that Gomez' contract is that horrible actually. If he gets a good winger w/ him he is capable of 85pt or so season's, while being responsible defensively. To me that contract isn't really that bad.

How about we trade you his rites.

Sundin's agent, J.P Berry was the first one to suggest this.

How about some of you draft picks

If we do somehow sign him, I hope it's not going to be for more than 2 years.

The guy is quite old. Next Shanny anyone?

Drury would also have to move to wing

Well it would also mean bye-bye Shanny. He does put up 30 goals consistently every year, which is quite nice.

Shanny had plenty of hockey left to when he came here. But age eventually caught up to him like it will with Sundin.

Well, we'd only be giving him a 2 year contract evidently, I think its worth the risk.

i'd rather not i mean we already have gomez drury betts and dubinsky as 4 centers .. the only person that could move to wing would probably be drury but hes one of the best faceoff men in the league. doesn't really make sense if we have 4 centers locked up.

if that's your only reasoning that's bad... Sundin is very good at faceoffs, and you still have three other centers which are all above avg at faceoffs...it won't make one difference.

IMO if we get Sundin we would actually have a true first line center. He can score really well and set up people, deflect shots, plays defense, can hit, stand in front of the net... he is a better player than any of the centers we have right now. I say go for it.

So Drury would slide on Gomez's side? And Dubinsky would center the 3rd line? But what about Jagr, I mean he wants a 2 years deal, and Sather only one. How can we sign Sundin for 2 years and only give in the same time one to JJ? That sounds weird to me.

You know what, why not, sign him F it, move Drury to the wing with Gomez, sign Rolston to play with Gomez, than move Dubi to the wing & play Sundin between Dubinksy & Jagr.

Sanguinetti - Sauer?

Sanguinetti is at least a full year away from being an NHL hockey player, and Sauer can't stay healthy.

Try again, because that one is a pipedream.

guys, hate to burst your bubble here, but obviously the Rangers weren't interested, because this happened before the Habs got in on it, and the Habs now have exclusive negotiating rights to talk to Mats, meaning the Rangers either weren't successful or weren't interested after speaking to him.

And yes, Fletcher has stated, on record, that the Habs have exclusive rights to negotiate with him.

actually we wouldnt be able to sign any dmen. Apparently you didnt understand my post. Why waste all of our money signing Rolston, and Sundin. Sundin will get more than campbell and Rolston will get around 4-5 mil per.
